Well if it works for win2k I would like to install and play I have gal civ2 and all the expansions and they never asked for winXP. Also Win2k and XP are nearly the same!

If there isn't a workaround, I don't see how the OP is entitled to money back, the specs both online and on the box clearly state that WinXP SP2 is the minimum software supported.

I have many games that say windows XP supported but they all work on win2k. Really there is almost no difference between XP and 2k except the skin that makes it look like XP was made for children.

Also I am sure that stardock will refund me as the order has not even been sent yet. I ordered the box to be sent to the UK and just tried the download as it would be quicker than to wait.

It does state that XP and vista are supported but it does not state that they have added a flag to prevent installs on windows 2000.

Heflys you may be thinking of windowsME, windows 2000 is NT5.0 and windows xp is NT5.1 practically the same.

XP when it first came out (XP Professional version that is) was in fact really close to the NT Kernel since it was based off of it. However, after 2 service packs (about to be 3 with even more Vista features yoinked back into XP) they are substantially different. Also, I think Windows 2000 is not even supported at all by Microsoft any more with updates any more so it is definitely a security concern for people still using it.

BTW works fine on my windows 2000 for Gamblers info.

Just note for those still reading... the game of year eddition does NOT normally install on win2k. It demands xp.

And here I got all excited I could play it tonight without having to break down and install XP. Guess I'll have to try some of the harder work arounds.

Also- the link to that guide does not seem to work for me.. claims I don't have rights to view that or some such foolishness.
