Ppl say there isn't a concrete strat. I beg to differ. There must be SOMETHING of a concrete strat for the beginning of the game.
But the people are right regardles

as millertime wrote, you don't give any really detailed information, so it's quite a guesswork.
Here are some advises, you could follow to get a game where you have hardly no chance to lose and where you can learn the AI strategies:
- select the easiest dificulty (your opponents will basically sit on their 2 start-planets and do nothng at all). If you don't like that, then pick easy or simple, the Ai shouldn't pose any real threat there either, but should at least comlonize some worlds and build up some military. But if you are having massive issues, pick the easiest one to learn the game.
- Take a small map with "abundant everything" settings (mainly "number of planets" and "habitable planets"). Uncheck "blind exploration" so you can see where the AI players are and disable mega events.
- choose opponents manually. (1-2 on a small map, 2-4 on a medium map). Avoid militaristc races like drengin, Korath, Yor and the drath (even though they arent really militaristic). But at the lowest difficulty it all shouldnt matter much.
right, you got a settin now you should win no matter what.
for the game itself my advise is: take it easy and slow. Play with the settings, see what you can do.
Once you have more specific questions: look again here in the foru. for most questions you wil probably already find the answers here

Anyway, here are some advices for your very first turns, not saying they are the best you can do, but they should be "ok" (I wouldn't do it exactly like that mysyelf, but I'm sure you can learn many small "tricks" by reading the forum or finding out yourself once you know the basics)
- On your homeworld start building some factories (2-3), maybe buy the first one.
- Send your colony ship to the 2nd planet in your system and colonize it (or if you see a better planet already nearby - send it there)
- send your space miner to the asteroids you should see in your homesystem nearby.
- explore your surrounding with your survey ship: concentrate on nearby starsystems and try to find new habitable planets - also send that ship to anomalies (avoid wormholes at first though) that are on the way.
- Start building a colony ship on your homeplanet and send it to thea habitable planet you found. (if you set everything to "abundanat" as advised above, you should find several planets with no problems)
from there on just continue to expand and develop your empire.
