A Noob Question

I was using the No Automatic Updates (NAU) mod in Dread Lords. It worked fine, no problems. Today I installed GalCivII Gold w/Dark Avatar. I downloaded NAU and extracted it into the mod folder. Fired up the game, went to options, checked "use mods" and couldn't find. Like an idiot, I clicked on "defaults." Nope, wasn't there either. Using My Computer, I went into the mods file and put copies of NAU in the mod directory and the mod\default directory. I still can't find NAU when I go into Options and it doesn't run when I play the game.

I even tried uninstalling and reinstalling the game. The uninstall didn't apparently wipe out the files, because when I reinstalled NAU was still in the mod and mod\default directories.

What did I do wrong and how can I play this mod?

It might not be DA compatable, in which case you did nothing wrong.

Damn! I like that mod. It's something that I think should be part of the game. Something similiar is in every other strategy game I have (Civ, SMAC, MOO2, Caesar III/IV). Just because I know how to build Manufacturing Centers shouldn't mean I have to spend 57 weeks building one in a new colony when I could improve production by spending 10 weeks building a Basic Factory.

Um, I could be wrong, as I haven't had a lot of chance to play DA, but I think you can build older buildings on planets now. I seem to remember a tab on the right side somewhere. Or I could've imagined this.

Yes, it is a new feature to DA.

You can build any older version of a structure, then upgrade it - so you can get incremental production out of something like a factory.

You can also hit the details button to get to the planetary governor and disable automatic updates - but you can only do this on a planet by planet basis.

Personally I wouldn't want to disable upgrades globally, since I wouldn't want the micromanagement hell of manually upgrading structures on my established worlds, which are the backbone of my empire, and which have no problems handling routine upgrades. But it's definitely nice to be able to ramp up production on new/acquired worlds instead of being stuck in eternal build mode.

I won't be updating the NAU mod for DA as the ability to build 'obsolete' improvements is already in DA, as many have said.
