Another use for this thread is for general non-earth shattering announcements. For example.

The Metaverse Council is beginning to take its first baby steps. The Galactic Diplomats, High Command Hegemony and Arrakis Imperium have all elected 2 representatives and ratified the constitution.

The B.C. Space Orcas are having a bit of difficulty. It appears that the empire is healthy and many of its members are posting games to the metaverse. But many emails to the Orcas' emperor have gone unanswered and the empire is suffering from a lack of communication. The current state of disarray is assumed to be temporary. Either the Orcas' emperor will return or someone else will effectively take the reins of the empire.

In the meantime Syrrus K has agreed to act as an interim representative of the Orcas' until such time as he can be confirmed or replaced. There have been a number of other Orcas' that have recently visited the Orcas' thread but as of yet we haven't made contact. We can only assume they're off practicing with their Doom Rays.

The council itself is formalizing a set of voting rules (which will be voted upon using the rules that are being voted upon, huh?). We're also considering selecting one or two (possibly more) "at large" representatives. People that express interest will certainly be the first to be considered, but the potential exists that some may be "drafted", with their consent of course.

That's pretty much it for now. Stay tuned for further developments. Also feel free to make suggestions to the Metaverse Council Suggestion Box. Keep in mind that we’re initially going to be very busy just trying to set up some "infrastructure" so please be patient.

I just thought I'd repost here about the metaverse for mods that could be possibly happening in the future on TBS Modder (which btw is now back online). Dependent on the devs making a small alteration to the game, this could soon be happening, offering scoreboards for all major mods.

On another note, how many members does an empire have to have to be represented? The Hitchhiker's of the Galaxy so far has 2, but I would be happy to represent it on the council.

AltMeta updates are underway and going well. The 'backend' process of processing the data and updating the stats is down to ~100 seconds. If it has to go get new game data, it'll take longer. The first couple of test runs it didn't have the data present to know that it didn't need to update all the players' games, so it checked all of them (Ouch). Doing that took 13 minutes, but that's still considerably snappier than the old system.

Moving on to updating the frontend to using the new data sets. It should be considerably faster as well (in terms of page generation and database work that is--it may not be really noticeable to users but it does matter!) once that's done.

I'm seeing a problem on loading the Altmeta page from both IE and FF.

Array ( [0] => [1] => [2] => )

Is repeated 50 times across the top of the page, then it's starts displaying correctly a bit further down.

And yet more... something to potentially help promote the AltMeta a bit, though to use them here you'd have to manually add them after every post--dynamic stat banners.

See your Character's stats page for yours. I'll see if I can't put together some nicer looking options in the future, if not more stuff such as medals.

That is cool Kryo   And a great first step. One question. Does the id stay the same even if rank changes or do I need to check it again after changes?

Great job on the AltMeta improvements. Looking forward to an even better AltMeta in the future as the Council looks for ways to make the Meta a fun place to post your scores.

Yes, the id is the same as that for your character on the official meta, so it never changes.

Edit: Just checked the unaligned RSS and it's only 3.5 or so megs. I'll have to see how well the script could handle that, but even if it can I probably won't have it update near as often as the rest due to the load involved.

I would gladly trade inclusion of more players for update frequency. I'd think an update every other day or so would be fine. Even once a week would be preferable (to me anyway, the council does need to discuss this) to excluding anyone that wanted to be included. If it does in any way help requiring that individual players at least form a one man empire would not be a bad thing. That might help to exclude those that have never posted a single game.

Thanks Kryo. Your work on the altmeta is awesome. Didn't expect to see changes quite so soon. I believe in keeping it reasonable, from a workload standpoint, as well as keeping it updated.

I've been sick, so surprisingly enough I've been working more than usual. Must be the cold pills and ridiculous amounts of coffee.

I think the banner is a great way to help promote the altmeta, even though I'll limit using it to once per thread, instead of every reply. I also think it would be good if where it says altmeta2 could be clickable to take you there, but realize that may be difficult to incorporate.

Not exactly possible (you can't do an imagemap on the forum AFAIK, unless it lets you guys use full HTML too), but you can just make the whole image a link. I've got some updated and MUCH nicer looking banners on the way, so I'll try and figure out exactly what forum codes it needs to use so you can just copy and paste it here, link and all.

Charstats pages are updated with new banners. Pick the one for your favorite race, or just go random (the ones from last night will be treated as random now).
