Golden Rule

We all were new to this game at one point. We all asked a question or had an idea that someone else had come up with before us. Someone probably looked at our idea and thought "Sheesh! Not this idea/topic again!"

My point is, that since this game is still selling in stores and online, there are constantly going to be new members on the forums. Now yes, they should try to research their idea before throwing it out, but we should try to be a little nicer to the new guys. Nicely pointing a person to a sticky, or filling a player in on the fact that a topic has been fully discussed in the past is somthing that Im sure would go along way to improving a new forum members experince!

One of the things I have constantly been impressed with is the caliber of people on these forums. I would hate it for new players to be discouraged from joining in discussions because they are afraid of getting snapped at.

Indeed. But its hard to deal in such absolutes. Who at one time or other hasn't been the asshole. I know I have. Maybe those about which you speak are assholes more often than not but that doesn't mean they can't also be helpful on occasion and contribute positive ideas to the game. With some folks you have to take the bad with the good, in others perhaps you need to take the good with the bad.

I'm by no means a religious man but there are a number of points from the bible that I do find are words to live by. The title of this thread is one good example. But I have to say my all time favorite is "let he that is without sin cast the first stone". I can't speak for anyone else, but I don't feel qualified to cast that first stone.

Yes and No. You know who you think they are and I know who I think they are, but it's by no means garrunteed that we agree on who they are.

You need a serious reality check with that one, even though Mumblefratz caught and addressed it. As far as being nice to newbies... depends on the mood. Life isn't nice so why should some of us "sugar coat" such things.
As far as the "you know who they are", I am sure WE do know who we are, so the point is moot. However, if you reflect a bit, you will see that even us "bad people" have been more than lenient as well as helpful.

Basically, there are people, and they all have both good and bad days. On my bad days, I try not to post. Chalk it up to experience. On my good days, I keep my posting to a minimum. Chalk it up to hiding my ignorance.

I don't. I find no reason in keeping a black ball on my desk. I am quite used to seeing abuses on forums, not just here, but other sites as well. Problem is for new players, is they certainly don't have such foreknowledge of who the jerks are. For all they know, it is a highly respected forum poster calling a spade a spade, and not a pot calling a kettle names. Sadly, restraint and courtesy are learned tools. It's a shame some ppl can learn to play a game of this depth and fail to learn more important life skills. Go figure

Also, if I make mistakes/step out of line, I expect to be called on them. Whether you call me on them or not is your perogative.

I still think many people on here, could learn some restraint and courtesy for others, especially for those that don't deserve it. Though we are all out of line at times, I know I've had at least one big "arguement" on this forum where Kryo has stepped in.

I think those who have been around for a while have an idea of who you may be referring to. I have noticed it seems to go in cycles. Most generally I have witnessed most who post on these forums as being helpful.

Clearly, there's some history going on that I'm not aware of here. It's hard enough to remember who I get along with and who I don't, trying to remember who and why other people do or don't get along is beyond me. But I didn't see anyone coming off well there. It looked equally childish on both sides. This whole won/lost thing is kind of at the root of it all. You won nothing and own nothing and neither did he in that exchange. In fact in my opinion, you both lost.
