Polite "wouldn't it be cool" suggestion

I play most of the game zoomed out to a large tactical view. I like seeing my fleets and planets represented by icons. It makes the game easier to see, assess at a glance, and just generally more tidy.

One thing that would be cool though, for a patch, expansion, or even galciv 3, would be the ability to customize those icons. For instance: I design a warship, and on the shipbuilder screen I choose which icon it will be represented by. That way, I could have different classes, or generations of ships represented differently on the map.

Icons would be fairly easy to make.. probably just a .png.

Just saying it'd be cool is all.

i would like to be able to that as well...it would be especially handy in very slow research games...

That would be a cool and convenient feature. Maybe for an expansion pack or sequel, since Galciv 2 budget isn't getting any bigger for new features and such. I'd rather see the existing game get a little more polished than implement a new feature that might not work quite right.

my only problem with the tactical view way out, is when in fleets i mix all kinds of ships a lot of the time so the pictures never really help me. and i never really know what i have in there, and if you have fleets you might not have all the same type of ship, so what does it show? say you have 2 different ships and you picked 2 different pictures, what does it do then? just wondering what the solution for that would be

Why the heck do you need to change the icons on a ship for??
You can't hardly see them if at all..
and on the map really this is already covered with colors differnsiating ships of different races and size..
Why exatly you need to change them is beyond me...
Unless you are colorblind then the shape matters....

El Conquest, I believe he is requesting an ability to assign ships or fleets special tactical icons (when zoomed out) for the pulpous of identifying special ships or fleets. For instance, say that you have a fleet consisting of ships designed specifically with beam weapons (for those races that are vulnerable to such weapons) and another fleet for mass drivers. It would be nice to somehow visually code each fleet in tactical view for easy identification.

The same would be nice for fleets of fighters versus fleets of capital ships (that would both appear as the same icon on the map, assuming that they are both of equal strength).

Not a critical feature, but it would be neat. I’d like the ability myself.

That's exactly it. I design slower defense based ships and faster ships for attacking, aswell as defense on ships being based on what race they are nearest and what weapons that race uses. The ability to see the difference between them would be great as they currently all get assigned the same icon.

Again, I'm not saying this is a must have feature.. just saying it'd be nice.

i agree with that, i also play zoomed out.
what annoyes me most is that a fleet of 2 really tiny ships looks the same as 1 big bad battleship or a whole fleet of battleships. it would be cool if i can change the icon of it or make a small number on the icon telling me there power or something.
