Went from GalCiv2 pirate to GalCiv2 owner [thanks, Starforce!] -- End game movies gone?

So based on Starforce's recommendation, I downloaded Galactic Civilizations II. Wow. Absolutely mind blowing. This is what Master of Orion III should have been, no questions, hands down. So then I quickly discover this is a commercial product. So I go out and buy a copy.

Great to be supporting such an excellent game like this. I like what I've seen so far, and I'm really impressed with the patches and improvements over the initial release. Very much so, in fact.

Only one thing bothers me... after registering the game and going to version 1.1, the end game movies are gone. They worked before the v1.1 upgrade. Is this something I'm doing, an aspect of getting a copy via the Internet that doesn't upgrade well, ... or?

Argh! They are not Starforce, the are StarDOCK! Starforce is a copy protection system that basically :ehm: I don't know how to put it nicely so I'll leave it to the others

he is talkin about a incident when starforce posted a download bit torrent link of gal civ 2.
So he dls it and likes it... and then buys it.

Whats the problem? Achronous>?

Oh, sorry, I misunderstood. I thought he had downloaded the game somewhere, then contacted Stardock about a problem, and then Stardock reccommended he downloaded the game. My mistake, so please forgive me.

More info on the issue.... I just completed a diplomatic victory. Got the ending video. Is it just there is no ending video for a conquest victory, or is it just me?

Yeah, Starforce is the one who turned me onto the game. I never liked Galactic Civilizations I, so I thought this was going to to more of the same and didn't even think about playing it. Glad Starfoce got me on board, I love this game... it is just like playing a modern Master of Orion.

But back to my problem... is there no conquest video, or is it just me?

I haven't achieved a conquest victory in my 1.1 yet, but the video for it was there in the previous versions. If that's anything.

I did the same thing honestly.

The patch system is clever and I simply found the game worthy of a purchase.

Galciv is one of the few games that i have never been tempted to pirate.

It is a funny thought that if ever i did pirate a game, it would be 'after' buying it!! Why?? Because who want's to stuff around with disks? certainly not me!

I agree. Respect to Stardock. I even bought the Political game more due to the fact that if I can throw a little $$ Brad's way for a game, I'm more than likely to do so. He respects me as a gamer, so I respect him as a game maker. Even if I don't like the game much, I'm more inclined to try it, and certainly pay for it.

Personally I only found out about the game from the recent article on Joystiq.
Looked it up on Wikipedia found out the controversy, and preordered the game 20mins later (support of the principle was a driving factor).
I hope I enjoy the game, but I do feel like a moron for preordering the whole thing.
I should paid the extra $5 to get Dark Lords now and pre-order Dark Avatar.

Now I am one of those pathetic lurkers (I sure I am not the only one) sniffing for scraps of a game experience on this forum

Not a bad idea even if you had the game.

I hate starting a game i have no idea how to play!

Actually it's imposable to pirate a game by doing what you have said.

You need to download it without purchase or spread the game illegally.

Do you mean that as long as i have a legal copy of a game, i can then obtain and use a pirate copy without breaking the law??

Yes. Although there would be little point.

Edit:
This is because they let you put it on multiple computers as long as you only use one at a time.
It's the same principle as backing up your CDs in MP3 form. i.e. totally legal

Thats what make stardok and a few others unique... no disk required to run the games, i really love this!

I really hate stuffing around looking for disks to play a game, it is a serious pain in the ass.
