I'll be very interested to see if SupCom 2 support still looks like this in another month. Sure, Demigod looks to have gotten a shorter end of the stick than usual but so far, GPG hasn't exactly been synonymous with lasting attention to their titles. For now, I wouldn't read too much into it. The patches may seem signifcant but for a multiplayer-focused game, they're once again just adding basic features that really should have been there to
Your claims ring hollow in light of the fact that serious respectable people are skeptical of the laws themselves.
Yes, and I'm sure every serious and respectable person who has ever considered the subject has reached the same conclusion. Really, finding someone who's written a negative piece on existing copyright laws isn't as impressive as you seem to think it is.
The fact that you support such practices disqualifies anything you could possibly say in the matter.
Right. Just 'cause. Not much left to say, really. You're assuming quite a bit about what 'gamers rights' should entail with very little (beyond poor analogies to physical products) to back these views up. But hey, feel free to continue this high-minded crusade. The fact that you're the only one who 'gets it' offers some consolati
Right now games/movies are vehicles to for people to pay you guys but they don't get anything in return for it...
If that were true, then nobody would pay for them. Getting X hours of entertainment on-demand is obviously worth that money to enough people to keep this inudustry alive. I purchased a copy of Demigod and I can play Demigod any time I damn well please for at least the next few years if not for the rest of my life.

I play LAN games almost exclusively and this has kept me entertained off and on since it released. I don't give much credit to the AI but the multiplayer in any form is worth the money.

Unless this 23% also accounts for people who use other connection methods (such as Gameranger, Hamachi, or a standard LAN), I'm not going to be counting it as damning evidence of multiplayer being a wasted effort. Especially considering how difficult it was to get a reliable game going via the official channels at all for the first few months. I mean really, it's not like Demigod offers a compelling solo experience and I can't help but wonder how many of the people who did

The people with more games played aren't using some mystical power to bend time so obviously, they're spending more of their ~7 hours of non-work/school/sleep time playing the game. Many people don't have children. Many people like playing online with friends. Many people don't sleep a

If content is offered that I think I'd be able to kill some time with, odds are, I'll pay for it. I probably would pay for new DG's if it came up. To me, there's value in extending the life of a game I enjoy and while it's nice when I do, I never expect to get that value for free.

I'd just as soon agree with the OP (as I always have) as far as balancing them and making the costs -zero- but if accumulating favor is really 'that' exciting to people, I'd be all for putting every last one of them in the same non-zero bracket as well. I don't want to see different tiers of items with varying costs, however. I much prefer content that isn't made obsolete on purpose, especially when that change can easily occur within the space of a day or two of casual play.</p

Yeah... I don't see the point in a move like this. Favor is not at all hard to come by and this would further compound the problem that most people have with favor items as it is. There's already a good pool of items to play with. Balance those. Make some of that variety viable. I'd be eccstatic to see new content but not if it's thrown in with the sole purpose of making the old content obsolete.
Sadly, too many people are used to instant gratification.
The new DG's were being touted back before the game released. Eight months later, I'd be hard pressed to call it a cry for 'instant gratification.' Horribly inarticulate? Sure. Impatient? I think most of the people still here have put in more than enough time to drop that label.
WTF is a theme deck and how is it in relation to DG?
In card games like Magic: The Gathering, there are a huge number of options in terms of creatures, enchantments, equipment, and so forth for players to take advantage of. Many of these options are unique but there are also quite a few that stylistically (and statistically) make sense going in a deck together. For example, in the huge mix of creatures to play with, you have quite a few dragons, ange

I think most (rational) people understand that a lot of work goes into these sorts of things. They (myself included) still can't help being frustrated by the timelines considering that we've been hearing that this content is in the works since before the game went retail. I'm not going to pretend that I'm a qualified game developer but what has it been? 7 months? On the gaming scene, that strikes me as an incredibly long time, not just for content that was supposedly

I think there's not much sense in comparing single abilities side-by-side when trying to determine balance. Especially if you're going to compare one ability by itself against the entire package that goes with the other.

Don't get me wrong. I'm glad of any improvement updates and I certainly haven't missed what's been done but unfortunately (and yes, it certainly sucks for the messengers, here), the new Demigods are a pretty big deal to a great many of us, especially since I'm sure many of us have been waiting for them since the game released. Speaking for myself, I suppose it's my fault for taking the early chatter 6 months ago (or however long it's been now) about them being worked on to mean

Personally, I just think the prices alone are the biggest issue. I don't mind having diminishing returns or smaller increments on the upgrades but it shouldn't diminish to the point where you're paying between 3 and 4 times the price of the first upgrade for half the payoff.

LAN play uses the same favor pool as the single-player game. If you look up the "game.prefs" file and open it in notepad, you'll find a line inside that says something to the tune of "Points = [value]" ([value] being the number of favor points available). Change that value to whatever you like and whoever plays on that system will be good to go. It's been a while since I've done this but if you can't find that file right away, you might also have to run the game once befor

Sure, it would be the 'honorable' thing to do but it would be incredibly naive to expect anyone to actually abide by this rule. As was said, this is just another reason that the AI has no business showing up to a round between actual people (unless invited to do so beforehand) in the first place.

Forged Alliance also had a 'lot' more content out of the box and, for the most part, it worked and played fine.

That addition to the game.prefs file 'will' work in a LAN situation, yes. It uses the same favor pool and item unlocks as the single-player game. It's the online features that have their own pool. Alternatively, you can also look for a line that says something to the tune of "points = [value]" ([value] being the number of favor points you currently have accumulated) and change that value to whatever you want.
