Recommend me an email client?

I've been using PMMail (http://www.blueprintsoftwareworks.com/pmmail/index.html) as my email client since the OS/2 days

Although the windows version still works really well, it doesn't support SSL or TLS so I can't check my gMail account with it. I've installed Thunderbird to make up the shortfall.

The one thing PMMail has however that I can't live without anymore is the "remote control" feature - it lets you list all the email waiting on the ISP's server and tag them for deletion, retrieval (which can leave a copy if desired) etc. So I can delete the spam before it even gets to my PC as well as deferring huge emails until I'm not on dialup (handy for the laptop when I'm travelling).

Can anyone recommend a good email client that satisfies these (especially the last) requirement(s)?

As a last resort I'm thinking of writing an extension for Thunderbird, but that is the hard way

I haven't tried this myself, but you could try this,

I'd suggest just going totally online and using Gmail. Send me an Email if you want an account.

I've got one of those, thanks anyway!

It's not much use for retrieving mail form my corporate account, or dial-up ISP, etc in any case. FWIW those other accounts all have web interfaces, but I find those really, really cumbersome.

Hmmm, interesting. It could work to give my PMMail access to gMail.

It may turn out to be a workaround. Thanks for that!

I always frontline my mail with Mailwasher Pro - after filtering through that I don't worry too much which mail program I use as long as I have it set up not to open external images or active files without permission.

I chose it originally because it works with AOL addressess as well as POP3 - and I checked on the site - it works with Gmail as well.

Still doesn't help when there's emails with large attachments and I'm on dialup at least half of the time.

PMMail's remote control lets me preview what's there and tag it for downloading - sort of like an offline news reader.

Thunderbird lets you only download the headers which is half-way there, but when you delete them locally, it doesn't delete them from the server. You still have to retrieve the message body before it's deleted.
Nor does it let you retrieve a copy (leaving the original on the server).

The search continues....

Chris, I forgot to say that one of the things I like the most about POCO is that you have the ability to view your mail on the server. You can also download and leave on the server, or, in the case of mail you don't want just delete it on the server. Also, all attachments come down seperatly so you can scan them for viruses BEFORE you open them. Good luck!
