What is the different between jpeg and jpeg 2000

Other than the fact that its the latest iteration of jpeg. Who has used it and why? I am about to download a plug-in that allows FireFox to view 2000. (along with Netscape)

What do you guys and web developers think?

2000 was a lossless jpeg compression format...supposedly much better than the original.....haven't heard about it in yonks...

And since it isn't integrated into browsers by default (patent issues), it isn't going anywhere either. It's not necessarily lossless, by the way.
