Start 11: maximized windows don't use the full size of the 2nd monitor

Hi, I have an issue with Start 11 v.2.11, Win 11 23H2. The taskbar is on auto-hide and the size switched to middle.

Maximized windows, only on the second monitor, don't use the full size of the screen, but have a gap on the bottom in size of the hidden taskbar. When you switch the window to minimized and try to pull the bottom edge up to the edge of the monitor, it bounces back (sorry, I don't know how to explain it better).

This occurs only on the 2nd monitor and only with the middle-sized taskbar. On the first monitor and with other taskbar sizes, it works like charme. It was tested with several computers (all with Win 11, 23H2).

It would be nice, if you could fix this in the new version.

Hello,
Sorry to hear you are having issues. Need to know more information:

  1. Your Windows 11 full version and OS Build number. Please use Winver.exe.
  2. Taskbar auto-hide on top or bottom screen edge?
  3. Do you have any other 3rd party software running in the background that also control or add something to the taskbar, such as Displayfusion, etc.

To 1.: Win 11 23H2 build 22631.4317

To 2.: On bottom screen edge

To 2.: No. I also switched off the auto-hide function of Windows.

I can't reproduce your issue on my system. Below is what I have on my system. Taskbar on medium size and Start11 autohide turned on.

Would like to sugest, try uninstall Start11, do not select remove setting when asked. Reboot immediately after uninstall is done. Re-download latest Start11v2.11 again. Install it, reboot immediately again right after installation finish. Retest it and report back.

I've also Fences 5 installed. Do you have it too on your system?

When I reinstall Start 11: must I reenter the serial number, or is it automatically registered?

No, I believe you don't need to reactivate it. But, if it ask for reactivate, there should be no issue to do so, do you?

Okey, I did what you asking me for.

I had to activate it after all. Hopefully none of my 2 remaining activations have been lost, since I had not deactivate the former installation.

Unfortunably nothing has changed. The issue still exist.

First, you can use this steps to deactivate old activation: https://support.stardock.com/space/SHC/1260585049/How+to+deactivate+Stardock+products.

Do you see any different result if you turn this option on or off? Restart needed to see the effect.

yeah, this was it. I've switced of the option, restarted and then it works. Many thanks for the hint.

It is strange that the issue only occurs on the second monitor, when the option is activated. What is it good for? When should I activie it?

Also thanks for the info and the link to the registration. There I could see, that the reregistration hadn't cost an other activation.

It would be nice, if the link to "store.stardock.com/myaccount/products" is shown in the info section of the apps, so that you can go to "My Account" directly, whenever you need to.

Unfortunably the problem occurs again, as soon as i restart the windows-explorer, despite the option being disabled.

If I then activate the option in start11 and deactivate it immediately (without restarting), I can set the window to maximum size again. So that is not yet the solution to call up the start11 settings after every restart of the explorer.

Look like something else is causing it. Please try cleanboot as mentioned here: https://forums.stardock.com/505872/start11-support-faq#cleanboot. Do follow the steps mentioned with care. Try it and report back.

It doesn't help. Now I will test it on an other computer with a freshly installed windows without any programs or apps and I'll give you a report. It will take a while, maybe until tomorrow.

I have now managed to set up one of my test computers with a new Windows 11 installation. The issue can be provoked immediately without an additional program, such as firefox, being installed.

So it must be Start11 itself, it can't be otherwise.

Maybe Start11 works in a virtual machine, but causes this problem with Windows installed on hardware.

Have you the possibility to install it directly on a computer (ideally with an AMD-CPU) and try it out?

Another hint: If I go to “Taskbar / Configure extended taskbar” and switch the style to “Windows-10-style”, I can undock and redock the window at the top edge after an Explorer reset and the window is maximized again (without restarting). If the option is set to “Windows-11-style”, the gap remains at the bottom and the window is not maximized.

As I have already written, the issue only occurs in the middle taskbar size. Perhaps something went wrong there during programming.

This is now the case with 3 computers. Each has an AMD-CPU (Ryzen 5 2600 and newer). I can't try this on a system with an Intel-CPU because I don't have such a system. This may also be important.
