A salute to WB Skinners

In January of 2002, I made my first skin, a simple Logon Screen.
Since then I have moved on into DesktopX, done a Sysmetrix theme, and some walls.
Now, I've decided to try to expand into doing Windowblinds.

Perhaps, when my teeth stop itching, mouth stops frothing, eyes quit buldging and general unabashed sobbing quits, I can resume.

To those that do well creating Windowblinds skins.. I indeed salute you for your dedicated hard work!!!

Stick at it Phoon, take it element by element, and then one day, out of the blue, you realise that it's finished

There is always that 1st one that you can never really figure out how to finish it, but once it's done you'll be on easy street.
You do great work Phoon, I cant wait to see you tackle WB

IR took a month cause he wasted so much time here at the message board

Or you could do what I do...create something nice (one guy rated it a 9 ), but because it's so extraordinarily out-of-the-ordinary that it only enjoys limited use. Ah well, the price of individuality...(or just plain being weird,I forget which).

I strive to be a bit unique on my themes anyway dt...

I was overwhelmed by Skin Studio for 8 months. I started out just adding wallpapers to Skin Studio to load with the skins. Then, I modified a few colors. I was still overwhelmed. I did a few sysmetrix to familarize myself with different button states. Then one day, I had a idea for a WB theme. I decided that the best way was probably to create a start menu. I thought, "I'll never fully understand this program, its too complicated." But, then I saw how the pieces fit. So, I began to take it a piece at a time. All the while, thinking that I'll never get this. Then, I applied a few pieces, and it worked!! The margins were a mess, so I began to tackle that problem. And then, I got it. I began to understand the program. I had a little help along the way. But, in the end, my first Windowblind was complete. And Silver Surfer was born. It was a great feeling to accomplish it. So, don't give up, you will feel it too.

I opened it up one day and looked at the front page for over an hour. The I closed it. didn't touch a thing. The next day I did the same. Finally the next day I figured out how to change the fonts. The next day came the colors. The next day I started messing with the simpler graphics. the next day I kept messing around with the simple graphics. I am still messing around in the simple graphics. Although I am slowly moving on to make my graphics more complex. When it comes down to it skinstudio is actually fairly easy to use. Its the little oddities in the skinning itself that makes life difficult. I always have to play with the taskbar alone by itself for at least a day just to get things to line up right. I think that is has a very steep learning curve, but its a real short climb. After one skin you pretty much understand how things work (or at least you should) and you can concentrate on how to make better skins next time, or totally different ideas on how to make a skin. As for me I have succesfully made 2 skins on my own, am working on a third, and have converted many msstyles to windowblinds. It might actually be easier to start by converting the msstyles to windowblinds because usually the conversion isn't 1 to 1. So you have to go into the program and figure out how to do stuff like say adjust the content margins on the titlebar so the system icon doesn't cover up the titlebar text. I hope you can figure out how to use skinstudio, its a lot of fun.
