Hello everyone,
I wanted to share an insight from my experience working in engineering firms, where dealing with extensive data and file archives has often been a challenge, especially when trying to recall and access critical information from projects dating back 4-5 years. In my quest for efficient data management solutions, I've explored various options for indexing large servers/NAS systems. One standout solution I've discovered is DocFetcher. This tool leverages Lucene for its programming framework and offers astonishing retrieval speeds, requiring only a modest amount of hard drive space for indexing (for example, a 1GB index for an 8TB hard disk) while providing immediate access to all your files. It enables searching by both file names and their contents.
As a long-time user and enthusiast of Stardock products, specifically a seven-year user of Start11, and a supporter of DocFetcher, I've pondered the potential integration of the DocFetcher engine into the Start11 search bar. Given that DocFetcher is open-source and can be integrated with Python, this seems like a feasible enhancement. My background as a computer scientist pursuing a PhD in AI, with a focus on its application in industrial robotics, has inspired me to conduct various tests on software and macros, finding that DocFetcher integrates well into workflows.
This integration could revolutionize how we access and manage data, blending seamlessly with existing tools to enhance productivity and data retrieval efficiency.
What do you think? Have a nice day
