Replace "Individual" Icon on Links with same exe name replace ALL Icons

Hi there,

Adding a Link to the Start Menu with identical executable names, like "cinebench.exe" (while there are different Versions of the Application with the same exe name but different folders) and changing the Icon of just ONE of the Links, Start11 replaces ALL Icons from ALL executables with the same name.

This is definitely a Major bug and needs a fix!

It is not System dependent...

Step by Step:

  1. Install Start11 on ANY compatible Operating System
  2. Select "Windows 10 style" as your Start Menu style
  3. ...
  4. Rightclick "Cinebench.exe" from directory C:\111
  5. "Pin to Start11"
  6. Rightclick "Cinebench.exe" from directory C:\222
  7. "Pin to Start11"
  8. ...
  9. Rightclick ANY of the added Icons in the Start11 Start Menu
  10. Icon -> "Pick custom tile image..."
  11. Select an Image
  12. Both Icons change
  13. Both Icons run the SAME Version of the Application (last pinned one)

TLTR:
2x Same Executable name, even from DIFFERENT Directories, will just overwrite the previous one!

that's it!

All the info you need is given now!

If you run regedit, what entries do you have in HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Stardock\Start8\Start8.ini\Start8\CustomTiles ?

With regards to both icons changing, if they both point to the same exe then that would be expected.

Instead of right clicking in explorer, right click from the Start11 menu itself and pick Pin file.  Does this then allow you to have two separate links?

No, it just overwrites the "older" with the "newer" one.

I did now a Workaround and made 2 separate LNK-Files for each Cinebench.exe, named it differently and only THEN I've added it to Start11.
The "default" Windows 11 and Windows 10 Start Menu, on the other hand, can handle "same Exe file name" from different locations!

Thats very odd as it works fine here with two separate shortcuts created and both can have their own icons.

I wonder if it is specific to that file.
