Fences 4 Beta 2 Issue Report Thread

With the Fences 4 Beta 2 (ver 3.9.8.54) release, we are creating this thread so that users can report any observed issues.

Object Desktop members can get the release from within Object Desktop Manager

Reporting an issue

Please include the following for anything found:

  • Exact Windows version \ build (winver.exe)
  • Detailed steps to recreate the issue seen
  • Screenshots and videos are very helpful.  Videos can be uploaded to a cloud drive services (GoogleDrive, DropBox, OneDrive, YouTube) and links included in your post.  Images can be directly added.
  • If there are specific apps that the app does not work (well) with, please note what apps and their exact versions.  If any app is not common, a link to a trial version would be appreciated.

Fences 4 Beta 2 (3.9.8.56) Changlog:

  • Fixed shift hotkeys wouldn't toggle 2nd time until shift released and pressed again (GetAsyncKeyState issue ala WinKey issue we saw before)

Fences 4 Beta 2 (3.9.8.54) Changlog:

  • Hotkeys are no longer set to ignore injected input. (Multiplicity support). Added regkey option to disable
  • Fixed text cutoff bug in snapshot rename dialog
  • Fixed hotkey issue where Winkey was not registering (GetAsyncKeyState issue)
  • Fixed taskbar zorder getting messed up on use of magic hotkey
  • Fixed black desktop on first use of magic hotkey
  • New setting to force-enable crash report dialog for all explorer crashes
  • Improved smoothness of scrollbar expand animation on Win11 (Thread-sent WM_TIMER msgs getting QoS'd)
  • Improved "first WinKey+D/Space can cause black flicker"
  • Fixed WinKey+Space, fence corners would be rounded even if rounded edges are off
  • Fixed issue with "Show Label on Mouseover" + WinKey+Space, titles would not respond upon mouseover
  • Added registry option to minimize other windows on exiting Show Desktop by activating another window
  • Fixed "key stuck" for hotkey feature
  • Fixed "Labels: Never" causing Fences to break
  • Fixed backgrounds would fail to paint when opacity 100% while moving
  • Fixed crash on restore snapshot / perform auto-layout
  • Fixed label change-font dialog opens blank on first use
  • Fixed new-WinKey+D would cause the desktop to cover secondary-monitor taskbars

Known issues

  • Object Desktop Manager, post update, still shows there is an update.  Looking into it.

  • Version 3.9.8.56 will read as 3.9.8.54 after the update on the About tab of Fences.

Garbled text in the menu remains with HDR enabled.

Problems with Fences 4 Beta 1 & Fences 4 Beta 2

 

After I created Folder Portals on the desktop by pressing the Alt mouse to select a folder, when I entered the folder through the Folder Portals on the desktop and then returned to the previous folder, the file explorer crashed directly

The computer configuration is as follows

Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-10710U CPU

RAM 16GB

Windows11 1000.22000.318.0

 

Downloaded installation package details version 9.5.3.0

I can't take a screenshot on my PC as it removes the HDR and clears up the text. But here is a picture I took with my phone.

Beta 1 was the same. All drop down menu options are garbled if HDR is enabled on the monitor.

I have an ACER Predator X34

i9 11900k

32GB RAM

ASUS Hero XII Mothebroard

Asus Strix RTX 3090

After completely uninstalling and reinstalling the latest version of fence 4, it still does not work properly. After creating Folder Portals, and then sorting out the files in the Folder Portals folder, an error will be reported directly, prompting me "File Explorer" Failed to close normally", after restarting fences, the screen is black and prompts "File Explorer failed to close normally".

 

The computer configuration is as follows

Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-10710U CPU

RAM 16GB

Windows11 1000.22000.318.0

Just upgraded from Fence 3 to 4 on Win 11 Build 22504.
"Allow navigation" doesn't work on my fences, it just opens a new explorer window every time. Fences 3 had the same issue recently (probably since upgrading to Win 11). I've tried toggling it as well.
I haven't been able to tell if it would work on newly created fences as I can't create new ones for now.

Please check and make sure in Windows Explorer Folder options->General tab->Browse Folders->Select "Open each folder in the same window"->Click apply. And retest. Report back.

It was already like that. I wouldn't have expected Fences to work differently otherwise.

+1.  Been like this from Beta 1 for me. Also in beta 2 shortcuts isn't working.

You are talking about portal fences, yes? Because normal fence do not open up inside itself.

Having a multi monitor setup I can't get Fences to restore (or remember) correct monitor. I have tried to turn off "Main Display" settings. Now my monitors are sharing background and therefor it would look like one very wide one. They are also set as to move fluently from one onto another as one would expect.

So even if Fences treated this as "one" monitor, it should remember the positioning.

It takes a correct screenshot, but it doesn't restore it manually or other wise. There is no error code, it just don't do anything when restoring.

Hello,
Sorry to hear you are having issues. Please try purge and reinstall steps as mentioned here: [link]. Just make sure to redownload the latest version from your account. Reboot after the purged. Reinstall, and Reboot again after the installation. Retest it. Report back here.
