Version Info:
I've been playing Sins for a while and have all the DLC that was ever released I think. This particular problem is happening on the steam build 6907397. No mods, single-player, stock everything after a fresh reinstall from steam. Even after re-installing stock from steam, file verification insists there's 1 file that's failing to validate and will be reacquired. Edit: This looks resolved on steam's end. Then nothing gets downloaded and it keeps saying that any time you check. But the game does launch and everything seems normal.
The problem:
Playing as TEC Loyalist against some bots in single player.
The Corsev Capital ship Boarding Party ability is not working outside of friendly gravity wells at all. Not on pirates, neutrals, enemies, squat. I even ran tests where I start the game, build the capital ship and fly it to a neighboring gravity well alone with auto attack off. I attack a frigate to the low double digits of hull and then fire the ability, guaranteeing the ability kills the ship (I used both the little frigates and korsev neutral pirates for this test) no boarded ships result at any time.
I have been able to take over enemy incoming pirates in friendly gravity wells with the ability so I know it's working at least somewhat. The autocast behavior tends to flub the ability as well, firing about 15% hull damage too early and thus the ship isn't destroyed as the ability expires (all levels)
I remember back in like 2012 or 2015 there was a problem that was patched where this ability was ONLY boarding ships in friendly gravity wells that got fixed. The tooltip doesn't say anything about this ability only working in friendly gravity wells, and a bunch of stuff on this capital ship doesn't work without that reliable source of "boarded" ships.
Could someone at stardock see if that "Only takes over ships in friendly gravity wells" bit got toggled back on by the patch? If that's not it I super hope someone can explain what's going on, because I can't figure out anything else interfering with this. It's all stock.
