CursorFX 4 Cursors Flickering

I am just now getting my feet wet with CursorFX and immediately ran into a problem. Whenever I choose a cursor other than the windows default the animations causes the cursor to flicker. I've tried rebooting and that didn't help. I tried to assign both video processors and neither helped. I'm really stumped about what to do. My system specs are:

  • HP ENVY - Laptop 17t-ce100 CTO
  • Intel i7-10510U Processor
  • 64GB DDR4 SDRAM
  • Intel UHD Graphics (Comet Lake-U GT2)
  • NVIDIA GeForce MX250 Graphics
  • 2TB Sabrent Rocket Q NVMe (PCIe 4x 8.0 GT/s)
  • 2TB Samsung SSD 860 EVO SATA 3
  • Microsoft Windows 10 x64 v2004 Build 19041.388

All my drivers and software are up to date. That's all I can think of right now. If anyone has any insight as to what is causing my flickering issue I sure would appreciate your help. If I can provide more information just let me know. TIA

Hello,
Sorry to hear you are having issues. Need to know more on your display setting such as:

1) Monitor/s resolutions.

2) Monitor/s Scaling 100%,125%, 150% or more?

Please try purge and reinstall steps as mentioned here: https://forums.stardock.com/485856/cursorfx-support-faq#reinstalling. Just make sure to redownload the latest version from your account. Reboot after the purged. Reinstall, and Reboot again after the installation. Retest it. Report back here.

Hello Basj,

Thank you for responding to my post so quickly. The information you wanted is:

  1. My monitor has a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels. 17.3" and ratio of 16:9.
  2. The scaling is at 100%.

I did as you asked and cleaned out CursorFX 4.03 and rebooted. I reset both my graphics units to all default settings. Using Object Desktop I downloaded and installed version 4.03 again. After the installation I rebooted and found that the problem remains.

Please let me know if I can provide any more information or tests. TIA

When you said "Cleaned out CursorFX" you did mean you used the purged "Purge_CursorFX.bat" that was listed in the purge guide? If yes and problem still remains.Please try the cleanboot steps to figure out if there is conflicting application with CursorFX. Please use this guide : https://www.windowscentral.com/how-clean-boot-windows-10

Try it and report back.

Hello Basj,

Yes I used the "Purge_CursorFX.bat" file with Administrative privileges as was listed in the purge guide. In addition I performed a clean boot of my system in accordance with the link that you provided.

No change was observed. The cursors still flicker. The more animated the worse the flicker is.

Sorry I don't have better news. Do you have any further ideas of what I might try? TIA

Please post a video of the flicker issue and post a link here so we can understand the issue better.

Thanks, for the video. Please try this. CursorFX Configuration Windows -> Settings -> Shadows tab -> tick the disable box. See if it improve the flickering issue. Report back here.

Try this one : Go into the Nvidia control panel (right-click on the Nvidia icon in the taskbar tray and select the Nvidia control panel > Manage 3D settings > Program Settings Tabs. Find CursorFX, if CursorFX is not listed you will probably have to add manually. Once that is done. 

Under 2. Select the preferred graphics processor for this program it will tell you which graphics processor the program is using. It will probably be your integrated one as was my case. If it is, select the High-performance NVIDIA processor. It solved most of the lag, although not so much the GPU use. At least it makes the GPU use worthwhile.

Try that and report back.

Hello Basj,

I tried to make the Intel UHD Graphics as well as the NVIDIA GPU the preferred processor and neither one helped. I'm really scratching my head over this. Is there a DEBUG build that I can run? Maybe we can find a clue in the logs? TIA

Try turn off the NVIDIA Graphics Overlay in GeForce Experience settings. And report back.

I double checked and my GPU, a MX250, doesn't have that option. My GPU is not qualified for the "In-Game Overlay". TIA

For Windows 10.

I know this post is very old, but I found a solution. I had bought CursorFX about two days ago & was having the same problem. I was testing out most the options & found if you go to "Trails" option turn on "Ghost trail" it stop the flickering. Hope this helps.

- Ease of access

- Mouse pointer
