Unfortunately neither the compatibility mode (Windows 7) nor disabling of the "fullscreen optimization" helped 
I tried the following options:
1. Disabled "fullscreen optimization"
- Right Click on the Executable File (.exe) and Select Properties
- Select the Compatibility Tab
- Under Settings – Select “Disable Fullscreen Optimizations”
- Click Apply
> Game crashes when click on the middle mouse button
2. Disabled "fullscreen optimization" and used Windows 7 Compatibility mode
> Game crashes when click on the middle mouse button
3. Enabled "fullscreen optimization" back and used Windows 7 Compatibility mode
> Game crashes when click on the middle mouse button
Yeah probably Windows 10 Releases from end of 2019 are to new for this good old game
