I resolved this issue.
Note you must have an internet connection to use this solution!
Having purchased other Ashampoo software (directly from Ashampoo), here is how to resolve the issue.
First, go to Ashampoo.com website (www.ashampoo.com). At the top right of the screen you will see a login. If you don't have an account, create one then once logged on to your account go to the 'Licenses' page and select the product you just purchased from the drop-down selection, "Ashampoo Backup Pro 11", then copy the license key you received into the license key box, and click 'Add License Key'.
You should receive license successfully added notice. (You may have to refresh this page.) At the bottom license page you will find your Ashampoo license along with a download link for the 'correct version of the' software which is 11 not the trial version on the main Backup page which is 12, for which the license doesn't work (I tried it).
When the software has downloaded, install it and when it opens with the initial screen of extending the software, click the 'Activate' selection, enter the email address used to setup you Ashampoo account and the password and the software will automatically be activated on your machine, or you can wait until Stardock gets the correct link setup.
