Mouse Over Issue

Good Afternoon,

I've a question on mouse overs.

On the next screen shot, when the mouse is positioned over the object (Roland Organic) a rectangle appears around the item and a popup appears:

Yet, in the same fence with the mouse over a different object (Naturally Leavened) nothing happens:

Then again, when I click once on an object, in this case the far left object (Roland Organic), and then the mouse over the object that would not popup (Naturally Leavened) now works correctly.  Sometimes this works and sometimes not.

This happens in many other fences, with some working fine, other mostly OK and some hardly popping up at all.  Making new fences for the objects does not solve the problem.

I wish I could give you a pattern but there does not seem to be one.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Rich

Hello,

Sorry to hear you are having issues. Please try the purge and reinstall steps. https://forums.stardock.com/486084/fences-support-faq#reinstalling

Make sure to download the latest version from your account. Install that version and reboot. Retest it and report back.

Thanks

Thanks for the reply, will attempt reinstall tomorrow.  Before I do that, can you tell me if the purge will delete current fences and settings?

Win 10  Version  1709 (Build 16299.846

Fences Version 3.0.9.11

Thanks

No, it should not delete your current fences setting. But just to make sure you can backup your snapshot of your layout using these steps : https://forums.stardock.com/486084/fences-support-faq#backupsnapshots

OK, so I did the purge/restore as suggested.  Two things happened.

1.)  As another poster put up, any colors that have been assigned to the fences are wiped out.  Since there were many fences this is assuredly a pain in the neck.  This is also odd since when choosing a backup to restore the correct colors are shown on the little previews.

2.)  Performing the above actions did not solve the problem described in the original post.

I will hold off on recoloring the icons until I hear back with any suggestions.

Thanks

I played with this for the past hour and it doesn't make sense.  But, if there is a pattern it is:

That icons which do not have tooltips in Fences will suddenly have them if drug to the desktop.

That many times the icon on the second row, left side will not have a tooltip.  If I drop an icon into row 1 which moves the last icon on the right to line 2 on the left, then the moved icon will stop working.

Very, very strange.

Maybe you can show us your problem with a video grab. What I notice is that you need to have your desktop active to have the tooltip to appear. Dragging the icons is one way to make sure the desktop is active. If I have a windows opened and active, those icons tooltip will not appear. This is normal Windows 10 behavior of icon on windows desktop.

With Active windows

With inactive windows

Added note : On Portal Fences. It will act differently. It won't display any tooltip. Until you selected one of the icon in it, only then the whole icons in the fences will show its tool tip. I am guessing, it might be because those files/icons not really in the desktop area. It just icons with link to it actual location. Hence the name Portal Fences.

I'll see what I can do to get you an screen grab video, although video is not my thing.  Question... how to upload it?

YouTube, and link it here.

Here a link for list of free video capture software. https://elearningbrothers.com/blog/top-10-screen-recording-software-for-windows/

Personally I use Tinytake its free version limit up to 5 minutes. Which is sufficient for me.

Thanks Basj,

I have the software for creating the video.  I just do not see a place on here to upload the file.

Basj, your assistance has been excellent, but the lack of a Stardock way to directly upload files when receiving support is neither normal nor desirable.  Because we value privacy and security we have no Youtube account, and unfortunately for solving this issue we don't want one and none is planned.  I will think about a different method to get the job done, but, again, there should be a way for customers to upload needed files without forcing them to set up accounts on other platforms.

Well you can always send it to me via email. I though using youtube is easiest way. I've PM you my email address.

Thanks for that info, sdRohan.  Our preference is that if we don't need something then we do not create a vulnerability.  As a result, we only use local logins in Windows.  We don't need Microsoft accounts and because of this don't have any.

Honestly, in the past 30 plus years since 8088 days, years before the internet, and up to the present we have never been hacked.

Basj kindly sent me an email link and I will send up the video files to him/her when I actually have the time to create them, which probably will not be today.

Again, thanks for your suggestion.
