I haven't seen this request, but I don't think I'll be buying Fences without it!
Objects with long filenames are ugly and confusing when displayed below a large icon on the Desktop (and currently in Fences). Fences is a great opportunity to solve this problem, but it has not done so.
I would like to see a 'list view' added to normal Fences (as opposed to Folder Portals, which already have a list view), so you can see a small icon and the full names of the objects/files beside them. You could also order them either alphabetically, or a custom order by dragging. This would mimic, for instance, the drop-down bookmark lists in Chrome.
The reason I don't want to use Portals for this is:
· The items in a Folder Portal can't be custom ordered.
· I would need to maintain a real folder full of the items, shortcuts and links somewhere, which diminishes the point of using Fences. I would rather just keep the actual items in a Fence on the Desktop, rather than displaying a mirror of items that have to be organised and maintained elsewhere.
EDIT: I just discovered that Folder Portals need to have the 'refresh' button clicked, so it's not a live mirroring of the folder. That drastically reduces their usefulness. IMO the contents of the Portals needs to be updated automatically for this feature to be useful.
Thanks!
