Fences 3 Not working

for Windows 10

Hi,

I downloaded the fences 3 for windows 10 and its not working

nothing is happening

Now when i uninstalled it all my icons on the desktop have vanished, the files and shortcuts are there on my profile but the icons just wont appear whatever you do

 

please assist urgently as i have got so used to the fences in Windows 7 and need to use it at an enterprise level

Hi ....just an updated basically now all my desktop icons have come back, its basically that when installing fences, it automatically unchecks the option of show desktop icons which is why everything had disappeared.

Right click mouse on desktop and select view option and choose show desktop icpons

 

Now i need to sort out the installer, please can someone tell me why Fences 3 is not working on Windows 10

Hello,

Sorry to hear you are having issues. But we need more information. What do you mean Fences not working? It fail to install? or It fail to start. Have you tried start it up manually?

Hello

Thank you so much for the reponse.

Basically after i install the fences 3 free trial which i donwloaded from Stardock site, nothing happens

1) when i right click and drag the mouse to create a fence, it shows the 2 option create fences etc but when i click on it nothing happens

2) when i double click on the desktop the icons are supposed to disappear but nothing happens there as well.

 

we were using fences with windows 7 in our organisation but now all systems are being upgraded to windows 10 and we got so used to it that its become a part of daily operations. :-)

OS details - Windows 10 Pro - 64 bit version

Hi,

I am facing the same issue - not able to create new fences.

I have already installed/re-installed the tool several times, I have tried PURGE and I have checked if any other tool has blocked fences in any way -> all of this without any result.

FENCES: version 3.09

WINDOWS: MS Windows 10 Pro, Version 10.0.19042 Build 19042

 

Also none of any other workarounds discussed in other posts helped.

No, this is not installed on my machine.

As already initially stated in my first thread I have tried all other possible solutions posted here or elsewhere already.

This was one of those things I have checked up front.

Yes, well I really do not know what you have tried and what you have not. It is best to start your own thread. And please include all relevant information there. Thing such as:

  1. More details on your issue. Thing such as :
    • What error popup when you tried create a new Fence?
    • Did you ever able to create a Fences before?
  2. Please list down what you have tried.
  3. More details on your hardware and installation.
    • CPU brand? AMD, Intel or ARM (Snapdragon)
    • Is yours on Corporate system?

Hi, sure, I'll try my best - see answers below in line

  1. More details on your issue. Thing such as :
    • What error popup when you tried create a new Fence?
      There is no error message at all - when I do 'right-click >> create Fence here' then I see the "busy circle" of Windows appears, then disappears but nothing has happend -> so it pretends sth was happening but no visible outcome
    • Did you ever able to create a Fences before?
      I was able to use the previous version 2.x for years and then the 30-days-trial of Fences 3 on my old computer (worked absolutely fine); now I had to change machines, Fences 2.x not available anymore, so I purchased Fences 3 today -> so with Fences 3 I have never been able to do anything but the installation that ran successfully as far as I can tell
  2. Please list down what you have tried.
    • Install-/de-install several times
    • Purge_Fences.bat
    • checked several tools if anything is blocking Fences (i.e. Anti-Vir, Firewall, DeepInstinct system protection)
      NOTE: the completely identical protection systems have been installed on my old machine as well)
    • tried to let Fences auto-set the first fences (not doing it myself) -> this worked with the result that 3 fences were created but I couldn't add more and I neither could move a file from one fence to another
    • Running SasUpgrade.exe without result
    • Checking if Fences is LOCKED (wasn't the case)
  3. More details on your hardware and installation.
    • CPU brand? AMD, Intel or ARM (Snapdragon)
      Intel Core i7-8665U CPU 
    • Is yours on Corporate system?
      Not sure what you want to know here .. but it's a company provided laptop (not my personal one) but the previous one where Fences worked on perfectly was too

From this, do you have corporate level antivirus/security software installed in it? Software such as Websense or Forcepoint or anything similar to it?

Yes, correct, the AntiVirus is managed on a corporate level -Symantec Endpoint Protection, v14.3 build 558.

Fences is listed as exception in the AntiVir tool but still it doesn't work.

As it did work before on my old machine (same AntiVir tool), I am slightly doubting that AntiVir is hindering Fences to work.

Hi, I was unable to add another admin. This is blocked by company issued settings and restrictions. So this is not an option. Sorry!

We can't help you if that is not possible since we can't work out what is the issue here. Most probably, your company issued setting and restrictions, is blocking Fences from doing its job.

Then there is no other option but a refund.
