What happens to wasted production?

I have googled all day for this. No luck.

Before someone accuses me of not looking or RTFMing, I have. All I find are links to outdated versions of the software and even then no answer.

So, I have 4 colonies. Each one produces 10 raw production. I'm set to spend all of that production on ships/social projects. Then I set the ship/social meter to 50/50. I've noticed each planet then gets 5 production for social projects even if there is no ship building going on. What happens to the other 5 units? It *seems* like they are wasted. Is that true?

There is no wasted production. There is only saved production that hasn't been used yet. Hover over the empty space at the bottom of your build cue and you will see the amount of unused production. Whatever you next build will have that production assigned to it on your next turn. This is in addition to your normal manufacturing per turn and still limited by the one item per turn production limit. The same is true for both ship and social manufacturing cues.

Thank you. I presume this applies to Galciv3 base edition and not to the expansion pack. This is where the "wheel" of production spending still applies. I'm shocked Brad removed it after it was a hallmark of the game for what? 2 decades?

Well, the wheeld wasn't so much not well received as exploited to Hell and back by the humans - the planetary wheel was min-max heaven to some and figures like 1500 research per turn on one planet were attainable apparantly - as opposed to the AI who was cluelessly staring at the coloured round things. The humans complained "The dumb AI doesn't know how to use the damn wheels, Stardock! Fix it!" Brad replied "We know it doesn't because we quite deliberately have not written any AI for it. Be grateful it doesn't. You human min-maxers got nuthin' on an AI min-maxer!"

There were a couple of huge angry threads on the subject. Especially when it was removed. Lots of "you ruined my strategy of having 500 production per turn, you xxxxs!" people...

Glad the slider bars and wheel are gone, didnt like them. New system rocks.
