How do I turn off fences auto-update?
It would be nice if there was a checkbox added to enable/disable checking for updates at Windows Startup.
Maybe stardock can tell us which URL it checks for updates at so I can block it on my router?
I'm sure so many people would appreciate this option. (Especially with the problematic update popups going on right now.). It seems so simple. Quite surprised I couldn't find it in the settings.
I second that. It is very annoying to get this update window every day. I will definately NOT update, especially not if one has to pay again for the new version 3 and it is not clear from the beginning. Wrong turn, friends. Stop it now, or I will throw this shit from my desktop and you will definitely never ever earn another dollar from me again. thx.
I got it too, they know about it and I know they'll fix it. No need to get violent.
Count me in. Alternatively knowing the update url could be nice to be able to block it on my firewall.
I can tell you that the update check contacts activate.api.stardock.net. However I've also noticed that it periodically connects to dl.dropbox.com but I'm not sure why.
There is a text file temporarily on dropbox that allows Stardock to enable bug tracking (as long as the user also enables via a reg key).
I added "127.0.0.1 activate.api.stardock.net" to my hots file.
i try to re-installation to shut off update but can't enter product key when i click on "Enter Product Key" What The Hell
But can click on Purchase Product key or 30 Day Trail.
I'd presume that blocking activate.api.stardock.net will prevent activation of the product key since it likely connects to this address to validate the key. If you want to stop automatic updates using this method, you probably need to allow activate.api.stardock.net for activation and block it afterwards. The software will still attempt to auto-update but won't find any new versions.
i would very much appreciate an option whether to check for automatic updates or not, as it will often interrupt me while playing an online game. i have since blocked the outbound rule from fences.exe through the windows firewall until such an option is implemented.
