'Gay'

'Gay'

gay [Homosexual] /gei/ adj. infml - HOMOSEXUAL

gay /gei/ n. [C] infml

gay [Happy] /gei/ adj. dated (of a person) happy, or (of a place) bright and attractive.

OK....so, if 'gay' is used, along with > as a comment on a wallpaper, etc, it is clearly none of these meanings but is, in fact, the modern childish derogatory colloquial that equates 'gay' [or homosexual] as sub-standard in some way, and is intended as a comment expressing displeasure.

However, what it ACTUALLY IS, is a self-declaration of the commenter's immaturity and lack of communicative vocabulary.
It is also inappropriate, and grounds for Exiling/exclusion from participating on this site.

hmmmmmm.... so who is going to address abortion now?

And what about religion? Or taxes? Who here is married?

Do you think marriage is more about laws or is it about love?

BTW
Yes I agree with Jafo, the use of the wrod as a comment to note the work or catagorizing the designer is not welcome. If there needs to be something said, make it constructive.

Orion, it was meant for the newbies. You can't always go by the userID. Mine is deceiving. While it wouldn't be a low as yours it would have been 15023. It seems that after 300,000 the language has been a lot rougher and more policing has been needed. Oh well.

Being a Christain my views are somewhat different. I shall not share my views here. I do agree that nobody should be made fun of or insulted for their choice of lifestyle.

Commenting and posting are priviledges, not rights.

We do have a level between exile and citizen called visitor. Those who show that they can't comment reasonably on other people's work will simply lose the priviledge of being able to comment.

I love threats. Nothing I have said deserves exile. But then again my wife also has a account so....

I'm with kona in that my views as a chrisitian are totally different, which as it is has no baring on judging artistry and the skinning world as a whole, but the same remains that using anything less the constructive when describing someones work should not and defintely will not be tolerated. Besides 'grown-ups' being on this site 24/7 their are also children, teens and the like which do not need another portal influecing them on this type of behavior or thinking. Back to my rendering

You can be as Christian as Jesus Himself... but that doesn't mean somebody saying, "Jeez, this is so gay.." is something to be said or agreed with.

Neither is calling someone gay because of the work that has been posted. Not only does it show lack of intellegence, it doesn't have anything to do with the work at hand. Critisizing is one thing, belittling is another.

I would have to agree with Jafo on this one.....I would take offense to such language on comments. Gay or not, I don't appreciate things being thrown in my face. American Slang or not, the 'gay' community does not appreciate the language used to describe anything other than a persons lifestyle. Cleary you cannot describe a piece of art as being "gay." This is actually a very big issue which does not get talked about much. Sexual Preference has no place on the site as the site pertains to art and not lifestyles. You can believe that its a "Freedom of Speech" issue, when actually, it's something that can make many people uncomfortable. All I can say is, Think before you speak. You may mean well, but in the end, you're asking for more trouble than it's worth.......

let's see.. don't use the word 'gay' in a comment. and if you use the word 'gray', double, triple, and quadruple check your post before you hit submit. Got it.

"Think before you speak. You may mean well, but in the end, you're asking for more trouble than it's worth......."

No, you are giving this person to big of a benefit of a doubt...
Insulting comments are just plain bad manners, bad judgement, hostile activity and as such should not
be tolerated, taken apart and cleansed, excused or otherwise put up with.

Believe me as a past offender, it pays to think before you type no matter how wasted you may be at the time..

I've NEVER used the word "gay" in any of my posts decides this thread.
A little admin policing never hurt anyone.
