Okay, I know I am going to get lambasted for this, but I'd like to share this anyway. First let me say, that I am using Windowblinds 8 on Windows 10. I've found the right combination of settings and skin to make it workable for me. There are issues but I can live with them. The reason for this post is to address the "free upgrade" status, when a Windowblinds 10 is released.
On July 29th, the very same day the official Windows 10 OS was released, I purchased Windowblinds 8. I had read the compatibility list and saw that Windows 10 was not listed. But I think most companies have a bit of a lag time between program changes and marketing updates on the Website. At that time, the official description did NOT say that it didn't support Windows 10, and there were a lot of posts in the forums about people who did have it working. Albeit to varying degrees.
I could not even get it to install, so I opened an official support ticket. All of my communications were with the same person in support, so none of this is a miscommunication between different staffers, but I'd rather not give the name of the individual. On August 3rd, I got my first response from Stardock:
Please view the forum post below for the most up to date list of compatible applications with Windows 10:

Please let me know if you have any further questions/concerns.
I wrote back asking three questions. Below are questions and Stardock's response:
'1. Jafo said officially that Stardock does have plans to make a version of Windowblinds, which is compatible with Windows 10. Is that correct?'
No, it is not.
'2. Will it be a free update to current subscribers of Windowblinds 8? In particular, since I just bought it.'
Unknown but likely free for recent purchasers.
'3. Would it be best to request a refund on Windowblinds 8, and just buy Windowblinds 10 when it is released, or just leave things as they are, and hope that it will be a free upgrade for those who bought it after July 29th?'
That would be up to you. We are working on WB for Win10 but I dont have an exact time when it will be available.
I wrote back on the online form, and this time Stardock's responses did not include a copy of my questions, except for the first one. So I will have to paraphrase them from memory:
Douglas,
'Since there is no official plans to make a Windowblinds for Windows 10'
Again, that is not the case. There are indeed plans; just no definitive release date.
Please Note in the email above, when I asked about Jafo's statement that "officially that Stardock does have plans to make a version of Windowblinds, which is compatible with Windows 10. Is that correct?" He said, "No, it is not". Now when I repeat his statement that there is no official plans, he says that is not correct.
I had stated that although I had been an Object Desktop subscriber for well over a decade, I didn't renew this time because I didn't feel enough of the apps supported Windows 10, to justify it. That was why I purchased Windowblinds separately. I said that if it was going to take a long time for a Windowblinds 10 to be released, it would make more sense for me to get a refund in my 30 day money back window, and then repurchase Windowblinds when it was released.
As for your other concern, there are many member applications that work with Windows10 that fortify the legitimacy of the cost of any subscription. Also, we do not expect any non-certified apps to to take any extended period of time to make them Win10 ready. At this early stage, we do not plan to scrutinize any value loss from the OD subscription.
Please let us know if you should have any further questions/concerns.
That brings us back to the gist of this thread about the release of a version of Windowblinds compatible with Windows 10 relatively soon. I took the statement "Also, we do not expect any non-certified apps to to take any extended period of time to make them Win10 ready" to be a time less than two or three months. Even if I do get a free upgrade, which would surprise me, the remainder of the subscription would be 9 months. So I would have been wiser to ignore the advice about not taking any extended period of time, and gotten the refund. Then repurchase Windowblinds and get a full year of updates.
Let me say that I truly love Stardock desktop modification applications. I've been using them for just under 15 years, and have made a few skins myself. I even got a Customer Loyalty badge from Stardock. I have just found the rollout of this upcoming version of Windowblinds and the company's responses confusing. Do you think they will give free upgrades for purchases going back three months? Even if they do not, I will still buy it again. I just think there is a lot of room for improvement here, and I wanted to give the specifics. I hope this is taken as constructive criticism, rather than an attack.
