Wasteland planet hex modifier does what?

Trying my first game of GCIII beta. I colonized my first planet. One of the hexes has a modifier called 'Wasteland' The tool tip does not seem to hint at what bonuses it provides. I thought maybe research, as in testing weapons, but its red and black. Anyone know what/how it modifies the hex? There does not seem to be a mention of it in the wiki or in the forums. Lots of use of the word, but not pertaining to a hex modifier.

It's for military buildings. But something is wrong with your setup, the game should show the bonus type (and also the bonus to neighbour sites, which is a different type, maybe manufactury, if I remember well).

If you look at the box on the upper right of the screen when the hex is hi-lighted as it is in your picture, it will describe the purpose of the hex in detail.

The red icon indicates the bonus for that hex. The terrain desscription (desolate) has no significance that I am aware of. I don't recall the exact bonus given by the red icon but I think it is a military multiplier +2 or 3 and perhaps a secondary bonus for a different type of building.
