Start8 update 1.41 will not install

I have used Stardock programs (Object Dock and Start8) for awhile now but this is my first post to the Forum. I have Win 8.1 Update installed. Yesterday I downloaded Start8 update 1.41 and attempted to install it twice. Both times the computer froze immediately, the second time led to the computer not recognizing my secondary backup hard drive (had to run a disk scan twice with repair). Don't know if this resulted from attempting to install the 1.41 update or something else. Advice?
