Windows 8.1 Unbelievable!!

Hi all,

Today I loaded win8.1 preview. Blimey I thought, start button is back and you can boot to desktop. Overall an improvement and if you have a touchscreen then its a huge improvement,  However, if , like me, you prefer to use a keyboard and mouse then, believe it or not, Microsoft still do not understand what users want.

I just fell over laughing.

Ok so they got the Boot to desktop right, but  they didn't understand why people wanted to boot to desktop, ITS COS THEY HATE THAT GOD DAMN METRO THING !!! It has no place in the work enviroment.  I dont care what home users say about getting used to it, In a work enviroment you want clean, simple, obvious, no gimmicks, toys, fancy customizations blah blah.

You guessed it,  within 15mins of my win8.1 experience I was downloading start8 beta 1.7

All i got to say on the subject is "Thank god stardock are in touch with the real world"  keep up the good work guys,  I only hope Microsoft appreciate you keeping their customers on board.

Went thru all three Windows XP Service Packs, Vista's 2 Service Packs, Windows 7 Service Pack 1 and never had so much stuff broke as when I upgraded Windows 8 to 8.1 Preview this morning.  I'm 100% with you, compusurf.  Microsoft just doesn't get it.  Well... they do "get it" but, they're bound and determined to stay the course on their Metro strategy flowing across all devices from phones, tablets to PC's.  I'm a 30 year veteran IT professional and the one-size fits all mentality does NOT work when running Windows 8 on a desktop.  I've setup close to 30 desktop PC's/Laptops in the past 6 months for new Windows 8 users and not a one of them took a liking to the Metro-style interface.  Those are the everyday users of Windows whose word-of-mouth advertising for Microsoft is giving Windows 8 a bad name!  As soon as I install Start8 on these users' machines, they're happy again.  There you go, Microsoft... you can't argue with success.

Thank you StarDock for being on top of all this!  I like my computer to be visually customized and organized my own way to make my own statement.  Stardock GETS IT!... and gives me the software to do it.  It's why I paid for a full subscription to StarDock!  They didn't let me down this morning when I finished installing Windows 8.1 Preview and discovered my Start8 wasn't working.  I logged onto StartDock and they already had Start8 beta 1.7 which fixed it like a charm.

I love StarDock!

I am not going to bother installing Windows 8.1 preview.

I have no need to. I will wait for the final release.

But yeah, I agree with you guys.

Stardock know how to do things properly and obviously know what many people expect out of an OS.

HA! Bingo! I bought my laptop for gaming and work (I'm a middle school teacher), it does not have a touchscreen so why the hell would I want to go through all of the crap to do what I need it to, when all it does is slow down a kick-ass machine? What's really sad is that one of the support people at M.S. told me that he listens to people complaining all day about how bad this OS is, and that he hates it too! As I'm concerned, it's useless junk. Thanks Stardock for making it bearable.
