1) Can't drag and drop between screens 2) Difference between 2 and Pro

Windows 7 & Windows 8 PC’s  /  Multiplicity 2 v.20 Build 00029

I purchased Multiplicity Pro. I haven’t had a perfect relationship with the utility until receiving the ‘Support Notification’ for Multiplicity  2 on 11/1 and installing. Question: What’s the difference between ‘Pro’ and ‘2’?

The software is working quite well now except for infrequent short network drops. However, I’m unable to drag and drop between screens (yes, the box is checked in configuration) – Help Appreciated, Bob

PS: Unrelated subject.  I’ve been running Windows 8 in it’s various versions for about two years. I REALLY appreciate Stardock providing cool utilities like Start8 that make it useable. You’d never know it’s Windows 8, well almost. Couldn’t resist the $36 price tag  *_*

Hi. I'm using Windows 8.1 (and I kinda like windows without start menu. Or maybe I'm just already adapted to it, at least) and I'm really enjoy Stardock apps improving new features to it (even if I'm not using Start8  ).

I had some issues when I upgraded Windows 8 to 8.1, issues with Fences and also with Decor8, however Stardock was fast and solve them releasing new versions for them.

I work with 2 PCs and I'm used to connect to my "secondary" PC using RDP, so I had 2 monitors connected to the main PC and a RDP connecting to the secondary. Which creates me an "issue" if I need to use both monitors displaying documents from the main PC, I can't see RDP screen from the secondary.

This has been said.. So I decide to try Multiplicity 2.0 (still on trial), and for this I installed a third monitor on my desk so now I'm really working with 2 PCs (2 monitor for the main, 1 monitor for the secondary) and, I need to say, it's amazing the way it works (some lags a few times but nothing to real complain about).

The thing is, I also can't drag and drop things between PCs. I can't copy and past between them either. I first thought that was some issue with 2 monitors on main PC (and I didn't like to think that was a 'Trial' issue), but then I found this post. Which didn't bring me the solution, neither any fix trick, but 'inlight' me about what wasn't the issue.

So, any sort of help, as Bob Lund said, will be appreciated.

Thanks

Ok. I ran some new tests and I found out this:

1) I can copy and past from the secondary PC to the main but I can't do it from main to secondary.

2) Yes, I still can't drag and drop. Any direction.

Thanks.

Copy \ paste should always work.  Drag and Drop too but some (rare) known issues are being looked into via an internal ticket.

Whenever copy \ paste fails in any direction, it is almost always that the feature they are looking for is not enabled:

Or there are firewall rules (lack thereof) that are preventing it.  As a test, turn off ALL firewalls, Windows and 3rd party and try again.  If that fails, please place a ticket at support@edgerunner.com (please do not place for D&D at this time, just copy \ paste issues initially).

Turning off McAfee on main PC and Windows Firewall on secondary, copy and paste starts working on both side. Also, drag & drop worked.

Then I turn them ON again and restore the previous situation: ctrl-c / ctrl-v works only from Main to Secondary, and Drag and Drop as too.

So, what should I do next? I can't stay with no Firewall.

End of DaniCardelli's quote

MP will only add rules to Windows firewall so be sure that is all we are working with (no 3rd party firewalls).

Remove all MP rules from Windows Firewall.  look in the M's and S's as there could have been some placed in each over time.

Uninstall MP, reboot, reinstall.  Check the the new firewall rules have been added.  Try your copy \ paste again.

If that fails, please place a ticket at support@edgerunner.com with this tool run from each MP machine.  Send the zips with the reply:

Ok. MP created exceptions rules on both firewalls (McAfee and WIndows). I can't perform the test you requested last time, not yet.

I'll update here as soon as I get it done and if anything changed after that.

Thanks.

Ok. No matter what I do, I can't drag and drop files between PCs. When I copy and past from secondary to primary it's working, but now even drag'n'drop from secondary to primary stopped working.

So I went to configuration and now what I see there is:

- "Allow files to be dragged between computer" option is disabled

- "Lock secondary computers when this computer is locked" option is disabled

- "Pressing Ctrl three times will toggle keyboard input being sent to all computers" option is disabled

The curious about this is that all this new disabled options became disabled after I paid for Multiplicity. I was using a trial version with only on issue when I tried drag'n'drop / copy & past from secondary to primary, but this was working when it was from primary to secondary.

All disabled options were enabled before I paid and unlock my version of it for 2 pcs...

How can it be fixed or what a hell happened here??

Which version of Multiplicity did you purchase?

I believe all three of those require the $39.95 Multiplicity 2 not the base version : http://edgerunner.com/multiplicity#/Features

In general if drag & drop fails in one direction, it is a firewall issue on the machine the drag is coming from.  If you use the OS firewall it should be configured automatically by Multiplicity, but third party firewalls may not respect those settings and need configuration manually.

Ok. So I paid for a $19,90 version without the features I tested on Trial... Great.  :annoyed:

I have only 2 PCs and should paid for a 9 PCs version to have what I thought is basic features on Trial.

Can I have my money back? Because I can't afford a 9 PCs version to use only with 2 PCs to have basic features. I'm saying that because it make no sense to me reduce features for 2PCs. Really.

Also, McAfee firewall got exceptions created by Multiplicity (I checked) and still not works for copy & past from both directions.

If I need to manually manage it, is there any tutorials which I can use to know what to do or should I just guess it?

Sorry for not responding earlier, your best bet with regards to any refunds is to mail sales@stardock.com

Be aware that they are off Friday and Monday due to US holidays.

On the firewall, port 30565 should be opened on both ends for clipboard.  I suspect the McAfee firewall hasn't imported one of the Windows Firewall settings quite right which is why copy and paste is not working correctly.

Do you know how to do that on McAfee? I'm using McAfee LiveSafe and Windows 8.1

I would appreciate any help. I already tried to add but it didn't work.

Thanks.
