What language of windows are you running? Is it, by chance, non English windows Xp?
It sounds like that Unicode to ASCII issue that was mentioned by Cari in your video (assuming that was in reference to other languages).
Try to rename your "../My Documents/My Games/Fallen Enchantress/" directory to "../My Documents/My Games/Fallen Enchantress.old/". Please let us know if that resolves it for you and I apologize for any inconvienance.
