This argument is no longer about whether or not you should reset my password, as Im sure (what with your "boss" and whatnot) that even if you wanted to you could not.
If you need clarification on any of the claims I have made you may reference this thread in which we discussed my first password reset: https://forums.stardock.com/417958
In response to that: Certainly, we are annoyed.
As am I.
However, I would also like this topic to move forward: past discussion of what may or may not be.
Im sorry Firgof, but you cant expect a person to not linger on a topic when you simultaneously type out a whole page concerning the topic you DONT want to linger on.
you have forced our stance to move from 'one time exception' to 'possible repeat offender'.
Im a bit confused... so the very first time I asked the password to be reset was an "offense"? I was under the impression you were ok with me distributing a copy to my brother. This misconception of mine stems from the fact that I have hid nothing from you, told you everything, and you basically knowingly (as I cant see how you could have possibly NOT known seeing as I have HID NOTHING) helped me to distribute a copy to my brother.
[That] is a justification based upon a supposition; the supposition being empirically unprovable and thus false. Therefore, the justification is likewise false.
It is a FACT that my brother would NEVER have purchased the game. When he saw it on youtube he told me so and that it was "boring" and "just like sins" and etc. It is not a "supposition".
How do I know you're not going to give a copy to everyone you suspect may not like the game? Where does the rabbit hole end? We can't possibly know and you can't possibly prove where it does; so we have to assume the worst case.
Well with this "pirate witchhunt" mentality, why did you all choose to make a DRM-free version of the game available in the first place? By not attaching DRM to your game in the first place youve basically made everyone a potential pirate because people can just put it on their trusty USB and give it to their friend. I only asked for the password to be reset for the sake of convenience. I have ALWAYS been a POTENTIAL pirate.
Further, since you do not express remorse and instead provide justifications, this tells me you are likely to have no ethical dilemma facilitating another copy to yet another person.
Why would I be sorry? If I should have ever expressed "remorse" it would have been because you warned me or something. Only now am I hearing that I supposedly wasnt supposed to distribute a copy to my brother (which you knowingly helped me do) and that Im some sort of pirate.
I'm certainly not stating you've cost us any money, as we can't know whether you have
The url from which the game is downloaded from is secure. If you can even consider my brother a profit loss (which as I have stated he is not) then you know for a fact youve only lost one through me. Other than that however, the fault lies with you people for not putting DRM on your game, as everyone (not just me) is a potential pirate because of that decision. Dont misunderstand however; Im not implying that you should put DRM on your future. In my opinion you lose more than you gain through DRM.
but you did facilitate piracy
Well, if were going to call it piracy anyways: You are also guilty of this, because as Ive said you knowingly helped me to distribute a copy to my brother.
and your word selection ("my brother tried", "I used this opportunity", "torrent downloader")places you in the position of being a compromised source of information; that you may be a pirate without means or simply in disguise for the moment.
I understand your meaning in saying I could possibly be in disguise, but what do you mean my "word selection"? Ill try to guess your meaning in each of the "selections" youve given:
"My brother tried": I really just dont get this one.
"I used this opportunity": I suppose you mean to say that this statement of mine is essentially me confessing I was a pirate in disguise and that I "took the opportunity" to "use" you to my own ends? Thats kind of a stretch.
"Torrent downloader": Seeing as you mentioned "filesharing websites" (all of which require torrent downloaders) in the first place, this is a bit hypocritical. Yes, there are filesharing websites out there that are perfectly legal and are used for smaller files and freeware and demos and patches of all kinds, but any website that lets you download say for example Star Ruler requires you to use a torrent downloader if Im not mistaken.
Nearly all legal and reputable filehosting services? Filesmelt, for instance. I can't say I've encountered any malware from a file hosting site outside of checking Star Ruler out on The Pirate Bay and other (more typically illegally-used) such sites
So youre telling me that I can download star ruler from this "filesmelt" and that doing so is somehow more "legal" than downloading it from ANYWHERE ELSE?
What with "emotional manipulation" and your other claims... whatever. I thought to be polite because you treated me with the same respect (in the past anyways). Of course, if you think I am some sort of "pirate sleeper cell" then there's obviously no way to convince you otherwise as you seem to have been quite capable of convincing yourself of the contrary.
Now, seeing as I have responded to your wall of text with a bigger wall of text Ive no doubt your less than pleased. Hopefully we can overcome this silly argument (either through arguing about it and/or coming to an agreement) and get back to talking about the game because there is alot that I do not know.
