Removing / Disabling Text Under Icons ...?

Hi gang ...

I was a little surprised that this wasn't a feature / option thats included in the program.

Was hoping to find how to disable / remove the text under the icons. Im thinking the only way might be to edit something somewhere, but i dont know what it would be or how to go about it.

would i have to implement the approach these guys suggested here ...

Would be easier just to use ObjectDock, that way you can rename any icon in the dock by editing the dock entry properties to be blank with no name.

I'm assuming you mean Desktop Icons.

Wasn't there a PowerToy that would do that?  Maybe even one of SD's little utilities like TweakUI?

Seems there was something that would let you do that on XP, just can't remember.  Not sure about Win7.

ive never tried objectdock but i remember the same functionality available in rocketdock which i have experience with.

i used to use it [rocketdock] a long time ago, then became very stingy with my resources. what im getting at is that i tried searching around online before deciding on fences. i thought i saw mentioned a few times (cannot provide details / links) that fences was hands down lighter on resources.

what would you say about that?  im willing to go either way rocketdock / objectdock / fences. but want to choose the one that will not tax my system too much.

Not knowing your system configuration I can only say that using ObjectDock Free here only uses 18K of memory on my system and it doesn't bog down anything at all as far as I can tell. Of course you would probably need the paid full version for more docks if you are using Fences right now in order to get more docks.

not sure what you were suggesting - but like i said earlier - ive never given objectdock a try.

ObjectDock Free only allows you to create one dock. The paid version allows for multiple docks.

"Convoluted" for sure! LOL! but youre right - it does work!

 

@ LightStar ...

still taking into consideration what you said about objectdock and you got my curiosity going.

would like to se for myself what / how much is being consumed currently with fences.

how did you determine the amount you mentioned above?

when i check in task manager - i dont see Fences mentioned anywhere ???

lizz1 ...Fences isn't the same sort of creature as Objectdock [or Rocketdock]...and yes, it'll be 'lighter', though none of them is actually a drain on any modern machine.... I'm pretty sure Fences is 'just another' svchost.exe process in your Task Man....

that pretty mch sums it up i guess : )

heres a quick look at my specs ..

• Processor Intel(R) Pentium(R) Dual CPU E2140 @ 1.60GHz, 1600 Mhz, 2 Core(s), 2 Logical Processor(s)
• Installed Physical Memory (RAM) 4.00 GB
• Total Physical Memory 3.24 GB
• Available Physical Memory 1.68 GB
• Total Virtual Memory 6.68 GB
• Available Virtual Memory 5.27 GB
• Page File Space 3.53 GB

its not super old but is hitting the 5 yr mark so i know its not much compared to these newer systems. still (personal opinion) would you say i have to worry?

also note that i have disabled a good bunch of services and processes so i do have a little reserve. no aero for example - standard theme - etc.,etc., and the list gos on.
