Alright, so, Im going to tell you a story about a guy who plays Sins.
He tried the game, was a bit apprehensive at first, but then fell in love with it, especially its potential.
So, after about a year of playing Sins, he started to get bored. He saw all these requests for features to be added to Sins, but realised how many of them would/were getting ignored.
Then, he made a recommendation for certain Cap ships to require research before they are built, so as to be able to increase their effectiveness in such a way that wouldnt break the (especially early) game.
That idea was seen by other Sins Forum members, and eventually turned into a mod idea. (For anyone who doesnt know, Mod stands for Modification, where you change or add game files to make the game do something different)
Then, that guy discovered the Modding Forum on https://forums.sinsofasolarempire.com/forum/443
There he found mods that totally change Sins so you can play with Star Wars ships, Star Trek ships, Warhammer 40k ships, Halo ships, Stargate ships (note, not all of the aforementioned mods are playable as yet, but they are definitly in the works)
Mods that add entirely new races, that make the ships in the game fly around like a real space battle, not like Civil War soldiers lining up and shooting. Mods that change the visuals of the game so missiles are more visible, explosions are more attractive and general weapons fire just looks mouthwatering. Mods that change game music and expand on the Sins game in general by adding new planet types with planetary bonuses, buffs and nerfs. Existing ships get (BALANCED) upgrades and new abilities, fleet supply is increased by 80%, planetary scale is made more realistic, and AI that are smarter and actually use their superweapons/high powered weapons (i.e. Missile Barrage and Cleansing Brilliance).
Point of the story is: If you are getting bored with Standard Sins, but cant be bothered with Online Play (I know CenturionJixra is going to pop his head in here sooner or later). If you have ideas for things that would make Sins even more awesome or even add a whole new dimension, or move Sins in a whole new direction (Total Conversion Mods), then the Sins Modding Forum is for you!
Seriously, i could not bring myself to play another game of Sins because the rinse and repeat i had gotten used to was simply too much to justify playing again. Then i downloaded a few mods, and the simple curiosity of playing with Star Trek ships, or to see what new kinds of planets/abilities had been added, was enough to bring me rushing back to Sins.
Now, i really dont mean/want to bash the Devs, they had/have and Idea of what they want Sins to be, and i understand and respect that.
But, if you want to play a game where you can have multiple Superweapon Cannons on a single planet, or Colonisable, Armed Orbiting moons, or Moving Starbases, then there is more than likely a mod for you, and if there isnt, write out your ideas and see if anyone else is interested in developing your mod with you. Modifications are the Dev sanctioned way of playing Sins the way you want to.
So come over, see what there is, and remind yourself how much potential Sins of a Solar Empire has, and how awesome it can be.
