Kurooon, from what I understand (and it may be wrong), one cannot play on Game Ranger with another player if he/she uses a different version of Demigod.
Legit Demigod players (like us) would have upated versions. Pirated Demigod players (who apparently form the majority of Game Ranger Demigod players) would be playing using an older version.
Yeah.. I was unable to play with GR players previously. They gave me an error that the .exe was different. Definitely different versions of Demigod.
The difference between DoW2 and Demigod is the number of players connected to each other in a game. Demigod is frequently at least 2v2 or 3v3. I suspect DoW2 is frequently 1v1. Frogboy mentioned that opting for P2P was to meet the challenge of reducing response time between players.
They are still working to improve the connectivity. Regarding the apparently numerous unanswered threads on connectivity, I think the dev journals pretty much gives a rather good picture of the state of things. I think it's unrealistic to expect them to answer so many threads. I'm sure they do take note, and collectively answer them in their dev journals.
Also, regarding your complain with them only answering the "easy to answer" threads. How differently do you expect them to behave? I understand that you're immensely frustrated, so am I. Having so many SG players not be able to connect online leaves those that can with a less than optimal pool to play with. However, I can deeply appreciate the problems the devs are facing and no matter how much we complain, it still takes them time to do their job to patch up the game.
Sure, they did wrong, they've clearly learnt their lesson. Now we have to be realistic in expecting a fix. Software engineering simply cannot be rushed and they're already rushing their fixes. It's hard to ask of paying consumers, but right now, the best we can do is just hang on there and let them do their thing.
If Impulse simply cannot work, I would even opt to try Game Ranger with the guys here, or Hamachi. What do you guys think?
The DoW2 multiplayer games I play are ALL 3v3. No less. They are extremely stable games and if anyone drops, AI just takes over and we continue straight on.
Well, I do understand the Demigod team is working hard on this one, but Singapore has a fair share of DotA players. If Stardock can solve the issues with Singnet (99% impossible), I'm sure DotA players will move over willingly. Demigod is an awesome game, but without online gameplay, its literally garbage.
Since waiting IS my only option, I'll just wait this out. Even if money was wasted, at least I learnt to be wary of P2P games. Afterall, all my other P2P applications work very well. uTorrent, Limewire. Never gave me problems. Never understood why Demigod would.
