I just finished my first game with Entrenchment 1.02, single player, on the Gateway map, unlocked teams FFA v. 4 normal and 1 hard AI (OK, I'm not very good -- I had gotten killed in the first hour when I tried that map against 3 hard and 2 normal). I noticed a few things:
1. The AI surrendering conditions seemed much improved from my pre-1.02 games. The AI did not surrender prematurely. The first ones to be destroyed did not quit early, but seemed to keep fighing until they had no planet left. One AI who had been knocked down to pretty much nothing early on, actually made a cease fire with me, and eventually a peace treaty and stationed most of his fleet on one of my worlds (I think to hide out) until things cooled off. By the end when I controlled all but the two worlds held by my ally (who had not surrendered despite having, essentially, no ships at the end) and two worlds held by the last remaining AI, the Victory screen came up. I thought the timing was perfect.
2. The AI still make alliances easily and early. The hard AI had cease fires with 3 other AI very early in the game, when I was still trying to earn enough favor to get a cease fire with someone (any one!). It does not bother me, but even the AIs I had peace treaties with were of little help to me because they seemed to have cease fires or peace treaties with just about everybody else too. My longest-standing AI ally in the game betrayed me with, I think although i did not check, about a 90% favorable rating late in the game, which seemed odd but is just life, I guess. I suspect that maybe the one other AI he did not have a peace treaty with had just gotten wiped out and he needed to have someone to fight with.
3. The option I picked was Pirates Active, but they were dead from the start, with the broken glass screen and no pirate base in sight. I don't know if that is a bug, or a feature of that map that you can't have active pirates.
4. This was my first game with multiple Marza since Entrenchment. Missle barrage was amazing. And I love the ability Starbases give to lock down a critical world. And the Orgorov (however spelled) is amazing and fun.
All in all, hats off to Ironclad! A great game, made even better and more fun by Entrenchment. And special thanks for the quick response to the concerns about the AI surrender conditions so that the AI now stay in the game longer! I had been afraid we would be stuck with wimpy quitter AI until the next mini-update, and judging from this first game anyway, the problem has been fixed. Much appreciated.
