Angular Throne... lolwut?

This has been bugging me since the first time I saw it.

"...rule the galaxy from an angular throne..."

From the context, I undersand it to mean, roughly, "pwn nubs with violence," but what is this term a reference to?

Any help would be appreciated.

From Dictionary.com. Pay attention to number 7.

an⋅gu⋅lar

1. having an angle or angles.
2. consisting of, situated at, or forming an angle.
3. of, pertaining to, or measured by an angle.
4. Physics. pertaining to quantities related to a revolving body that are measured in reference to its axis of revolution.
5. bony, lean, or gaunt: a tall, angular man.
6. acting or moving awkwardly.
7.

stiff in manner; unbending.

Although to rule from a throne consisting of angles would be cool to I suppose...and 6 would be downright hillarious.

nice, without poking my head into a dictionnary, I more or less grasped the meaning of this sentence given the context

I'm the best   (said that because in french you wouldn't use the equivalent of "angular" in such a context/meaning)

 

anyway thanks for the quote, dictionary.com is now bookmarked (yeah I know could have found it myself but ... ho well)

Hunh.  I always thought of that particular definition as "dogmatic," not "warlike" or "militaristic."

I have to admit it's catchy, though.

I'm assuming, then, that it's not a reference, but a term coined in-house?  Or is it a common phrase that I've missed out on?

Do a search for it, and you won't find anything useful.

So, I guess it was a term that was coined in-the-house of Stardock.

Personally, from the definitions, and since the whole point of the game is to conquer all the other races,

I would choose #7 - a stiff in manner; unbending... throne.

I just figured it meant that if you get to rule the whole galaxy you can have a chair with a lot of sharp edges.

Matter of perspective; i'd rather 'rule the galaxy from a rhombicosidodecahedronspheroidicombilicalculateral throne..." than from a sharp angle but that's just me, kindof geometrically freaking at the seems.

Rule the galaxy from a soft, fluffy recliner, anyone?

PS - I bet that GameSpot blogger took the phrase from you guys.  GC2: ToA is on his reviewed games list.  Gave it a 9!  High-fives all around!

EDIT: nevermind.  Review was posted in 2006.  I withdraw those high-fives.

Same here; I always thought it was just referring to the typical jaggedy evil overlord chair. I mean, what else would a galactic tyrant sit on? A beanbag chair? That would just be silly.

Unless it was a black beanbag chair. With spikes. Spikes filled with beans.
