Questions about purchasing GC2

Hello, I plan on purchasing GC2, but I need some clarification first, before I actually do so. First, I've created my account here, and downloaded Stardock...which I have not installed as of yet.

I am debating if I should purchase the full digital program here, or get the entire series of GC2 on retail discs. I can save a "considerable" amount of money going the second route, so I am leaning a bit that way.

If I purchase retail...what role does stardock play, and how is that done? Will I install the game by disc, and use stardock to update...or just download a specific patch to bring up to current version?

If I should decide to buy off the site here, for convienence...how does stardock work...and can I make disc copies for backup of the game, or is that even necessary?

Thank you for taking time to answer my questions, I appreciate your help !!

Sincerely,

First off, you can only get DL and DA via retail (GC2 Gold)--TA, the newest expansion, is only available direct.

If you buy the retail game though, you can install from the discs, then update using SDC/Impulse, or you can just register and install the whole thing by download, it's up to you. The game can currently only be updated via SDC/Impulse, there is no standalone patch available.

SDC/Impulse does have an archival option, though that only saves you a redownload later should you need to reinstall. You can download as frequently as you need, and we're not going anywhere :)

Thanks for the very quick informative response Kyro! So...I could buy GC2 Gold, off of Amazon for $18.95 ( new and sealed ), and then use Stardock to buy / upgrade the game to the latest version "Twilight of the Arnor"?

Or I could just buy the "Ultimate Bundle" and then I use Stardock to download / install it and be done with it... if I read that correctly?

It's only a $10.00 difference, ( 2 gallons of Gas ROFL ) getting it as a whole from you direct using SDC/Impulse...so I'm kind of leaning that way the more I think upon it.

I appreciate your help Kyro !!
