Do I have to buy WB all over again?

A day or so ago, I got an email talking about a newer version of WindowBlinds was available. And I was wondering, do I have to pay for WB all over again?

(sorry if this is in the wrong forum :NOTSURE: )


EDIT: I think I found my answer to the first question. So my next question --- how come it costs $15 for the upgrade?

no u shouldn't have to...you get updates for a year when you purchase windowblinds

From the Sales FAQ -

Q: Do I have to pay for updates?

A: Generally not. The Object Desktop Network includes 12 months of updates and new components. Minor version updates to other products (like WindowBlinds) are made available to registered users at no charge. For instance, if you purchased WindowBlinds 1.0 you would have had access to over 6 updates at no charge. Only major version changes (like moving from WindowBlinds 1.x to WindowBlinds 2.0) will have an upgrade charge.


So it depends on the version you have.

I looked back in my email and it says I bought WindowBlinds on 08/13/07 so it hasn't been a year (yet) since I bought it so shouldn't I still be able to get free updates ? :NOTSURE: (sorry for being a pain!)


Hankers - I bought WB 5.0 and it upgraded me up 6.0 awhile ago.

The 1 year free upgrades only counts when getting the ODNT package.

For standalone purchases, it's up until the next major version change (like from 5.5 to 6).

if you have version 6 your good to go. Bebi is as far as I remember, is correct in her assertions.

$15 upgrade price, is not a bad deal considering it offers you access to the WC site, as well as buys you one of the most popular and best GUI enhancement products on the market today.

Ive never regretted a single Purchase from stardock, I truely get my moneys worth in product,quality and support. Not to mention it helps support IMO the best skinning community on the net.

The "one year" only applies to Object Desktop, as you are paying for a subscription with that. 

If you purchased WindowBlinds 5.5 after February 1, 2007, then you should have recieved the WindowBlinds 6 update for free.  If it was before that, than the $15 upgrade will apply.

If you currently have WB 6, then subsequent updates will be free until the next major revision.  You should update WB via Stardock Central or Impulse.
