I had a similar problem just after installing WB. At the time my activations had run out and I couldn't apply any skins until Stardock reset them for me and I had activated WB. What I saw whenever I tried to apply a skin was the Windows Classic desktop. Don't know if this will help anyone or if that is how the program was suppose to work but there you go.

I am able to uninstall then reinstall the program, and it will work, UNTIL I perform a hard shut down, then it will revert to skinning everything in either the default Aero or an old, Windows '98 looking skin.

I don't necessarily mind doing this, but I have to reactivate the software after each reinstall. Will I run out of activations at some point?

I have the same problem, but only after I update Windowbinds. I have to uninstall windowblinds completely and reinstall with the new version. Even then the only skins that apply are ones that were created by 'Stardock Design', or purchased premium skins. That to me seems to be too much of a coincidence. This is also not the only thread that I have seen relating to this issue. None of the related threads have any satisfactory or for that matter reasonable explanation for this problem. No one should have to uninstall and reactivate software that is paid for and supposed to be fully supported. I only started having this problem since Windowbinds 6. Never with 4x or with 5x. Given the fact that it occurs on my computer everytime I update leads me to believe that it involves a corrupted dll file. Because if it was anything else the problem would be isolated to just me and not so many other people.

Yeah, it is definitely acting like I don't have an activation key, but I definitey have one. Weird.

Having a serial number ('activation key') and running out of activations are 2 different things. SD sets a limited number of activations over time for any given app, after which activation has to be reset on the Stardock server side. Almost 100% of the time, simply asking support.stardock.com to reset your activations resolves the problem (assuming expiration of activations is the issue).

What even before activating the product?

Because all I had to do to fix my skinning problem was activate WB and after that the skins worked fine.

Just asking cause the answer might be informative for others.

I know this has no bearing on anyone elses posts because their products are already activated

no, I meant once you activate, it should stay activated and then when applying skins it should do so smoothly without reverting to classic
Reply #12 Top
Mine activates without a problem, and stays fine until I restart the machine. Then I have to reactivate it again.

Success! I was able to update WB (the update has been failing for the past few days) and I restarted and it ran perfectly.

Thanks for the help everyone!

Jaidah & Whatamitnick, Update to the latest version via SDC or Impulse and see if it corrects the issue. The "updated" versions you show are not current.
