Is there any chance for a more advanced cinematic camera? It would be cool if pressing the button not only removed icons but would automatically switch angles and zoom into different ships to give the impression of watching a movie.  Is there any chance for this in an official patch or maybe a mod?

I really don't think that a game-controlled camera could ever control the point of view as well as a human does. Yes for a more advanced cinematic mode that included super hi-res ship models (which are coming in 1.1 yay!!!) and massive debris-filled greasy explosions, but no to the AI taking the power away from the player by default. I really like controlling the zoom and POV myself, depending on what I want to see.

The cinematic camera in "company of heroes" comes to mind. Makes it good for replays.

a setting like this for replays is fun but would be to crazy for normal play.

Well, my main need for wanting it within gameplay is once I have a huge battle going and my empire is at the point where I don't need to micromanage too much. It would be nice to just sit back and watch my fleet wreak havoc in a movie-like fashion (also like the feature in Star Wars: Empire at War)

I'm pretty sure you can disable almost all of the little icons and what have you that show up, manually, at the very least. But I don't know of any way to completely disable/hide the GUI.

Also, "enable twist" if you want to be able to get some really good angles for screen shots.

You can sort of have a EAW style moving camera by ctrl-clicking on the ship you wish to follow, and by swiveling and zooming the camera around it. Just queue up some actions for it first before you sit back and watch.
