Culture Spread Mechanic question

I'm trying to figure out exactly how the culture spread mechanic works.

If you have two planets, each with with own Culture building, and both of them are affecting the same starlane, do the effects stack?  Does your culture spread down that lane at an increased rate?

What I'm really trying to figure out is if it's more effective to put multiple culture buildings on the same planet, or if you can get the same effect by spreading culture generators throughout your empire.

In case the question comes up I generally play Advent.

Depending on your situation, I'd say it's usually better to build one on separate planets. The reason is that culture drops off a set amount with each phase 'jump' so spreading the culture buildings to other planets will give a higher overal culture strength.

I think culture divides up at every planet. It doesn't necessarily drop off, it just has more lanes to propogate down.

Putting multiple generators at one planet does work, but "overpowering" even one enemy culture center can be difficult, usually requiring 2-3 times as many of your own culture centers.

You are pretty much required to have a capital ship presence to capture using culture. Use them to suppress culture at the enemy planet, and then have your own culture creep in to fill out the area. However, this means you ships must be attacking for a VERY long time, and why don't you just blow up the planet anyway?
