I have heard very good things about Chantix


I tried Chantix, but in all honesty, I did not give it my best effort.
My place of employment instituted a smoke free policy on Nov 15. I can only smoke if I leave the property at lunch time.
Now, being forced to quit/cut down just makes me angry and is very counter productive to quitting. I have to WANT to do it or it's not going to work.

Side effects I experienced with chantix...
Gas -   , nasea if I didn't eat before taking it, and FUNKY UNPLEASANT DREAMS.

I will try it again soon, when I can get past the politics of being told what to do by "the man".

Day 2 - Noon - Not a single puff. Still, the most challenging thing I've ever attempted.

I have heard some artists say their dreams were an inspiration for some of their work...so maybe here comes some work entitled:

I went cold turkey after smoking 2 and sometimes 3 packs a day. I lived in Japan where smoking was allowed virtually everywhere and I smoked in the office with my work mates. That's what made me smokin mad. When I moved back to the States I realized that I was out of control and I quit. My son was only three years old then and that was my main reason for quitting.

If you start again try what I did. Go out with your buddies and smoke a whole pack in one night (or more), then sleep with your smoked out smelly bar clothes near you...when you wake up you will never want to smoke again. However, I have never stopped craving a cigarette in the morning with coffee or after a meal to this day (DAMN!!!) and it has been 9 years w/o a smoke.

Also, the smell of a new pack or a new cig still drives me nuts. Buy some running shoes and go for long walks when the urge strikes or you get cranky with people. You'll be walking a lot in the beginning. Cheers, and good luck. f

well, i am going to quit smoking too... i on a perscription called Chantix, my aunt quit smoking using them and she swears by it. Your supposed to start taking the pills before you actually quit and the drug takes away the satisfaction you get from smoking so you don't go through the Nic fits, and the desire to light up goes away. She smoked for about three weeks and continued taking the pills for three months (during the 3 weeks of smoking she dwindled the smoking down and not with will power but because the satisfaction wasn't there anymore.

I wish you the best of luck, been smoking myself for 25 years. I hope we both do it. I started taking the pills yesterday, so i guess we will see what happens.

Make sure you eat before taking - the stomach problems that can come with it can be somewhat severe for some - I found out the hard way yesterday.

We are on it too - so far so good - and for both of us the cravings went away. Now to tackle the psychological side which I am thinking may be the worst of it.

My wife and I are pulling for all of you - and we are appreciative of this thread - it really does help. The first time she came here was after vStyler started it. Now she is finding out about my second addiction (WC).

Day 2 - 5:40pm... rough afternoon, bit of toothache on top it, just makes u wanna smoke more.. as if that'll make it go away,  

I tell ya, the psychological side effects of this are just unbearable sometimes. It's almost like your two different people.. an internal good against evil..sounds crazy i know. But quitting..is..crazy. The lighheadedness and cloudy thinking are....difficult to deal with.. to say the least.

still..I plan to fight this as if it's life and death..it really is.


Still...smoke free. (just a little crazy)

Could the lightheadedness be the result of your brain getting fresh air?   

You are experiencing what everyone does, you've taken away something that your body was getting on a daily basis. Your body and you will adjust, just takes time. Oh, and you are not crasy.

vStyler - think of it like fighting with a ship that is on auto-pilot and you are trying to change course. You are having to consciously hold your course...the easy thing to do is let go and the ship will go right back to the course it was on. So in a away it is a battle - problem is the battlefield is the mind. A lot of people have said that over time it will get easier...we just have to hang in there.

We are both having the same issues here - today was really hard for some reason for us. We just keep telling each other why we were doing it. Feeling kind of jittery and the worst is right after we eat!

keep the faith V man. when i gave up smoking it was one of the hardest things i ever had to do. when i felt like a cigarette i would turn and look at the missus and kid. i wanted to be around for them for many years to come, that helped me no end. Prayin for ya mate

Not sure if there is any truth to this or not, but I was once told to me that if you took a teaspoon of "creme of tartar" and mixed it with a glass of orange juice it was "suppose to help flush out the nicotine from your system over night.

Anyway.....I'm going cold turkey so far...but I gotta stay away from this thing (PC) a bit more...when I was on here I'd smoke like a house on fire.

I know just how you feel John....nothing crazy about it...nicotine itself is more addictive than heroin...so its going to be a really hard struggle...just hang in there. I'm to understand that if you can make it 3 days the nicotine is out of your system and then your just fighting against the mental habit. Oh...and the toothache is also smoking related...it destroys your gums.

Congrats on sticking with it - it really does get easier. The harder moments will become less frequent.

s.o.b. habit was waiting for me all that time

See...that was part of my problem....I was buying them online for $12.49 a carton and while sitting here at the pc I was smoking like a house on fire....well actually the cigarette was....I'd light one...take a drag and it would then burn out and I'd light another one.

But consider what I'm going through now Seldom...and since you got kids that should be even more of an incentive to quit. In fact, since you can't really even tell if you have an aneurysm it might be a good idea to get an upper and lower CT scan just to check...because there are no real symptoms. If you do and they catch it then it can be monitored....otherwise you'll know when it burst and you bleed out....then its to late...something to think about!

3 days is wonderful! Good for you!! YOU HAVE THE STRENTH AND THE DETERMINATION TO DO THIS!! The worst of the physical withdrawl should be over now!! Be strong, you'll make it!!
