Quoting Supersymmetric Singularity,
Allright, I am sorry, I red the forum, but I simply can't comprehend the choice to leave account activation to administrator who does not have the time to do so. I really do not believe Han is checking the registered users, because, as you have pointed out, it is his lowest priority. What is the purpose of such activation apart from an annoyance? Normally phbBB provides activation through email, which works perfectly. I understand it is author's decision to restrict access but if he doesn't want us to have the release, then he shouldn't advertise its existence publically and we could all hapilly play something else.
Considering the argument that BETA4 release is unstable: Well, thats how it is with mods and I am certainly not going to complain and demand a quick fix from the author of something which is a freeware. If it crashes, it crashes. Windows BSOD all the time. And if it crashes a lot, then I believe there is A LOT of work to be done, so then I can simply disregard waiting for the whole thing and again play something else. Necessary to point out that I still have the BETA2 release somewhere, which was stable and running without any serious problems. (I can share that, if anyone is interested).
If you would be so kind to ask Han whether he could activate all people interested, or even better provide help with account activation, or just give us all the forum access, I would be GALACTICALLY grateful. Perhaps I can even write an epic poem about you. Please understand, that the only thing I want from Han is a possibility to download something which he advertised as being AVAILABLE:
"12/16/07 - Star Trek for DA - BETA 4 IS AVAILABLE ON OUR FORUM"
By the way do you have information about the TA version release? Is it going to be AVAILABLE in say a month? A year?
Please, don't misunderstand me. I do value the author's work, otherwise I wouldn't even bother with writing this. It is a great mod, an awesome job, the best Star Trek related game ever made and a horrible shame that it is so hard to get it.
From what I understand, the activation process was done the way it is due to their previous page being hacked and messed up by another team. Or at least there was suspicion that it was another team..... I wasn't very active on the boards at this time, so i'm not 100% certain, so don't quote me on that.
Han hasn't updated in a while, but his last post stated that he has 2 of four initial planned races all ported into TA and Running well. If you are willing to take an older stable release ( which the DL versions were ) and port it into TA, then that's great. I personally rebuilt the last release for TA, then included Starwars and BSG and Staragate ships into one mod. If I was able to port ships from SFC or Bridgecommander, I'd personally do so, and get permission to release them. I've long said, we should have a system like those above games, where people can pick and choose what ships they want in their game... but Galciv seems to be geared towards big mods, rather than single ships.
There are also one or two people on the forums building their own versions, one person is doing an TOS mod I believe.
I have made a post calling for Hans attention over on the forums, and hopefully he'll get round to activating them soon. I know it can be frustrating for people who wait weeks/months, but as i've said elsewhere, patience is all is needed. He has assured everyone the mod is not dead, because even on his forums, people have questioned what's going on.
Hopefully the release that's appeared above will be enough to satisfy you, and if you can work it so that it's good for TA, all the better..... Good luck
