Desktop Icons Disappear

When I switch the desktop icon mode to "Show small icons on the desktop" it works fine for about 5 minutes and then all the icons disappear.  The only way I can get them back is to return to "Show large icons on the desktop" and reboot the machine.

Several of the proggies from Stardock (DesktopX, Object Bar, Object Dock) plus other 3rd party apps will hide the desktop icons...you have any of those running?

Thanks for responding so quickly.  I'm only running Object Dock.  I don't have the other 2 apps installed.  It seems to happen when somthing that causes the desktop to refresh loads.  For example the small icons stayed up for quite a while this time until I loaded Trillian and set it to dock to the right edge of my desk top.  This caused the desktop to "blink" (for lack of a better term) and the small icons disappeared.  This behavior didn't start until yesterday when I discovered the small desktop icon feature in WindowsFX.  Prior to that no changes or new software was installed on my machine.
