Preload worked!

Figured I'd create a post for all of us (some of us?) to say that we successfully managed to preload GalCiv2 and thank all the devs for the hard work they put in.

Data points if it matters:
OS: WinXP SP2 (English)
Server: Chicago
Purchase Method: pre-order directly through Total Gaming Network

Wasn't exactly fast and there was a wierd incident where in the middle of the D/L I was asked to upgrade SDC.

Anyway, took me about 4 hours (no restarts required) but it is all loaded and waiting for the activation files.

(Odds are someone will crack it before 2/21 but it will have to be someone smarter than me)

Robert, we need a bit more detail than that. Please email kwilas@stardock.com the error log from .\sdcentral\installed\gc2.log. And the login.txt from the sdcentral directory. And any other comments you feel relevant.

Well I must admit this has gone smoother than anticipated.  The new server farm apparently does work. Ah distributed bandwidth.

Beta Tester download > OK

OS: XP
Server: Chicago
Purchase Method: TGN Series 1 (WIll pre-oder boxed set as soon as we can)
Connection Type: DSL 2mbs
SDC Version: Latest from Stardock as of yesterday.

Took around 20 mins. Server speeds varying from 170 - 250 kb/s

Downloaded perfect for me. No idea what server. I just did it the "dumb user" way and allowed SDC to update itself and then I just started downloading. This was around 8pm EST on the 14th. Average download seemed to be around 300+k. The slowest piece was actually the tutorials.

Nice job!

more or less 1,3 Go and more than that as available disk space since the installation process, on my computer, required about 2Go (temp files, etc)

Smoked the whole damn thing averaging over 800k/s. Installed the entirety (incoluding movies, multimedia, and tutorials) of the game in less than 40 minutes. Very very impressive.

Everything worked out fine!

Renamed the previous Galciv folder to keep the beta and used the "standard" method:

OS: WinXP Professional (English)
Server: California
Purchase Method: Beta Tester via Total Gaming Network
Connection Type: company T1 (please don't tell)
SDCVersion: 2.29.374 build 117 (downloaded after uninstalling the previous version)

Elapsed time: I don't know, fired the download during lunch break... will try out the old beta tonite.

No probs here. Between 1,023 and 300KB/s on cable. About 40 min. Smooth as silk. Nice.
