Installed WB5B.002, reboot and no desktop icons, taskbar etc

After upgrading my licence for another year, I installed the WB5b.002 update through Stardock Central, rebooted when prompted and when I logged into my profile, I had my desktop bitmap and nada else. No icons, taskbar nada. Uninstalled through another profile, rebooted, logged into that profile and same problem, desktop background but nothing else.
Uninstalled again, rebooted, logged in and got Windows classic interface and my taskbar minimised and on the left hand edge of the screen. What the?

I'm also running adaware which loads on startup and that crashed on this beta. The previous WB5 beta never had a problem. Can I download the "old" beta from somewhere?

I'm running XP 64Bit
2Gb DDR II
3.4Ghz LGA775
Asus P5WDL2
etc etc

Any clues would be grateful, and as I mentioned, even a link to the previous beta would be appreciated

Thanks

Greg

I am having exact same problem on x64. I use ultramon and it makes that crash on boot too (missing reg entries), so I uninstalled it, but still WB5 has no taskbar as if explorer.exe has somehow failed.... Back to previous version I go....

Windowblinds 4.6 should still be showing in Stardock Central as a seperate download from 5.0.

Thanks Journeyman, but I was hoping for WB5.001 version. I can see WB4 but some of my fav skins
don't work.
Bah It does'nt always pay to update.

Did you have SDC archive prior to updating?

If so: restore the archive.

If not - try uninstalling through SDC - uncheck show pre release - and WB5.001 should show up.

Glad to se someone's on the ball, thanks Sir Bichur solved the problem perfectly.
Untick "show pre-release" and Hey presto there it is.

Thanks again

you're welcome

you might consider checking the auto archive before install option if you haven't already done so...it can come in handy

I am running x64. I updated WB5 and on reboot got only my wallpaper. Nothing else. I opened Task Manager and could not for the life of me figure out what happened. I reinstalled Windows only to have it happen again. But I tried running a new task, Explorer.exe. Everything loaded.
I don't know why the new update does that, but it was allowing my wireless connection and system idle process was at 99%. I could not end that, so I tried this bold move. I'll just keep it on WB4 and leave it at that. I hope this info will be useful to someone.

I have tried to reproduce this here without any luck.

Are you using the Welcome screen logon, or the classic domain style?  Also is your profile local or roaming?

Nice to see I'm not alone. I am on WinXP64. This last version caused the exact same problem as Greglaw and Nuxx. The desktop has nothing on it. When logging in as administrator afterwards and uninstalling WB, I can log back in my usual profile. If I re-install, the same issue surfaces.

I also use Ultramon and it fails to "set systray icon" like Nuxx. I guess WB is locking up something and Ultramon can't get its thing done. I use a local profile and classic domain style logon, as per Neil's questions.

I wonder if it could be the skin last used? (Mine was Thallos) Is there any way to reset current settings?

No other posts from Stardock? Usually, you guys are pretty responsive...

I need to get this checked on domain style login to see if that makes a difference.

I was getting the same problem with 5.002. I haven't tried 5.001 yet. But it does not seem to be skin related other then any skin other then MS default.  Below is how I would recover from nothingless.

When I was in neverland, I would ctrl-alt-del to get to task manager. Here you can do File, New Task. Do not bother with Browse it will just blow up. Explorer is going toast, hense no shell or anything. Select Run and CMD. Work you then work your to program directory for me that is C:\Program Files (x86)\Stardock\Object Desktop\WindowBlinds now you can run wbconfig.exe and set the skin to MS default. Click apply. Usually I would log off and back on again to sort out the shell.

Though I guess my next step is to uninstall 5.002 and try 5.001

Just as a follow up. Version 5.00.001 seems to be running well on my Xp x64 pro system. I am able to any of the skins and my system has not seem to have any of the explorer crashes that I was having before.

if you are referring to 5.00.001 an you're using a higher beta...using SDC...uninstall the beta and uncheck 'show prerelease' and the released version should show for download. Check 'auto archive' first so you don't lose the one you have in case I'm wrong.

x64 - I am having the same problem with 001 and 002 where the explorer issue not working. This is a freshly install x64? Has some programs on it but not many???

Any ideas?

I am not aware of this problem occuring on 32 bit Windows.

The non beta release of WB should work fine on 64 bit.  Only the current beta release has problems on some 64 bit machines.
