Realistic Sol system???

Hey all, first post.

MOO2 is still one of my favorite games even with it's many flaws. There's just something about leading humanity (my favorite race) against all sorts of aliens skirting the edge of extinction. One thing always irked me though. If I'm playing as the humans I want to feel like I'm actually playing the humans. I want a realistic Sol system. Now I know MOO2 couldn't do this because of the limit on # of planets but I'm ass-uming GalCiv2 can.

Please please please please put a little box you can check if you're playing the humans to give you a realistic Sol system. It would also be cool to have the same checkable box if you're not playing as the humans but if they're there they will have a realistic Sol.


One last request, can somebody give me the system requirements for this game. I can't find them anywhere.

Taken from beta 3 notes:

Minimum requirements: Pentium II 600 Mhz with a Geforce 3 level card (or ATI 7500) or better that has at least 64MB of video memory.

As Astax pointed out GalCiv star sytems have a 5 planet limit, but I don't think there's any reason we can't pick a few of the more popular planets to place around Sol    I would suggest Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, and Pluto....but if anyone has other suggestions just drop em here!

Are they STILL debating about Pluto? Or have they decided it's a giant astroid from the far reaches of the solar system? (And we do NOT want it to hit us! )

Jupiter almost got to be a star.... Poor jupiter. But then again, we wouldn't exist. What would it be like with a binary system?
Are there any in-game?

My vote would have to be Venus (PQ 3?), Earth (PQ 10), Mars (PQ 7?), Jupiter (0), Saturn (0)

Great idea!!!!

But like some of the others I suggest replacing Pluto with Venus.

Ohhh...even better. Include all 9 (or 10 if you want to include some of those recent asteroid finds) in the game, but only select 5 of them based on the availability of habitable planets. Heck, if it's abundant, it might even be worth boosting Mars to PQ 9 or so...

I would suggest Venus through Saturn. Uranus and beyond are pretty far out from the Sun, and Mercury is too small.

And saturn should have special trait "Straosphere rings" which increases tourism and influence.
(BTW will there be special traits on planets, like rare fuels, hostile microbes etc.?)

On on planets as such, but the planets tiles can have special bonuses for buildings of a certain type such as cultural bonus for cultural improvements and so on. If the start system was completely pre-defined (planet names, class, tiles types present) then it could be done.

For balancing sakes it would probably be good if each race had a pre-defined start system, especially if saturn was turned into a cultural bonus world as TheJopa suggests.

I kinda like the above.....except I would like to see the asteroid belt in there .... it could give a solar system extra defense abilities.

Didn't GC/OS2 have a nine planet limit? The limit of 5 was understandable in GC1, but it doesn't look like that same reason applies to GC2.

In the 3d engine, you have to fit each planets model in the orbit of the sun, the more planets you have the more cramped it gets, it would look ridiculous if they were touching. To get more planets in you'd have to extend to orbit area which takes up more space on the map. I guess 5 was the best balance.

We're looking at: Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn right now.  With Mars being a class 5 planet.

We've got Earth in btw, which was not trivial to have that planet surface work out.

Does that mean there'll still be a random quality Sol V? Or is that removed? I have no problems whatever you do, though it'd be neat to see Venus as a quality...like...2 planet or something. But having a quality 35 Sol V [yay for exaggeration] would be better...

Of course, for all I know you're planning for Sol to be a four-planet system in the end...

So how does that fit with custom races? Do you get to build your own Starting System? How should that work?
