Top/Bottom monitors

I just changed my monitor configuration from side/side to Top/Bottom. I do have an additional monitor on each computer, but that should not matter.

I can configure the secondary computer monitor to be left/right/bottom and that all works fine, but if I configure it to be on the top, the mouse does not move off the primary display. Stops at the top and does not switch to the secondary computer.

I figured it might be that some other program is using the top as a hotspot, but I have killed all utility software and it still doesn't work with secondary on top.

Any ideas or suggestions?

Hello,

Sorry to hear you are having trouble.

I do have an additional monitor on each computer, but that should not matter.

It does if the monitor width difference is great. We don't notice it as much in a horizontal configuration as monitor height differences are not as drastic.

Is this the actual physical monitor config:

And is this your MP grid:

Where the Primary is on top and the Secondary on the bottom?

I also want to know if you have experimented with any of these options:

Hi and Thanks for the reply.

The monitor setup is both main monitors are in center. Primary on bottom, secondary on top. Secondary computer monitor B is on the left portrait, primary computer monitor B is on the right portrait.

Secondary PC2 Mon1

Sec PC2 Mon2 (Portrait) Primary PC1 Mon2 (Portrait)

Primary PC1 Mon1

In Multipliplicity it is setup as this:

All monitors are 1920x1080 or 1080x1920 if portrait.

I have not used the Alignment settings at all and I have not enabled anything in the "Control Switching based on Mouse Movement" section.

With the Secondary Main positioned on top, moving the mouse up to the top of the screen on the primary does not switch to the secondary computer.

However if I put the Secondary Main on the bottom, it does switch when I move the mouse down to the bottom of the primary.

I figure if it was an alignment issue, then it should not work in either situation listed above. And honestly looking at the alignment settings, I would not know where to start.

Ok, I am seeing that with PC2 set on top, I am able to move up from the 2nd monitor on PC1 and the cursor moves to the 2nd monitor on PC2.

So it goes from the far right monitor up to the far left monitor. I didn't realize it was doing that. Attempting to move on the main monitor doesn't work.

I will mess with the alignment settings and see if I can get it working.

A very crude drawing of my set up Red is PC2, Blue is PC1.

Alignment settings state that default is to align top left of the primary monitor. So that should be aligned. How would I change the alignment settings to work in this situation?

I've tried putting PC2 in all 4 positions around PC1

On the Left - Moving mouse to the left on PC1 main display, it goes to right side of PC2 main display as expected

On the Right - Mouse moves from right on PC1 secondary display to left side of PC2 secondary display as expected

On the Bottom - Mouse moves from bottom of PC1 main display to top of PC2 main display as expected

On the Top - Mouse will not move upwards off main display, mouse moves from PC1 secondary monitor to bottom of PC2 secondary monitor - which is not what I expected.

I am underserving you because I just can't experiment with that setup (even if I were in the office it would be a challenge). And frankly, it's driving me a little nuts trying to visualize how I could make it work and still feel natural - the mouse movement.

Remember, MP cares what is the entry and exit to transition, it does not pay attention to how you have your monitors arranged (God will grant me that someday). So if it sees that it has reached the end monitor you have in Windows, it transitions.

With that, you may have to snake your way to certain monitors (something you have likely learned already). What also plays a role is what you have set as your 'Main' monitor in Windows for each PC.

I want you to turn this on and go down on PC1 Mon1 and see where the mouse comes out:

Ensuring that your grid has your Secondary above your Primary:

There are also hotkeys to get you to any monitor if that is a solution at all for you.

Turning that option on, the mouse comes out on the top of PC2 Mon1.

I have been "snaking" around and I am functional with it. But if we can figure something out that would be great. If not I might try the hotkeys and see how that works out.

I really like this monitor layout, so would rather not switch it back to being all on one plane (4 monitors across).
