Occasionally ships are routed around empty tiles. This wastes movement points. I have seen it happen quite a few times during games, but this time the occurrence was easily captured.
The screenshots:
The destination tile for the selected ship - from the orbit of "Randgrior IV"

The route the ship is going to take.

Manually launching the ship and moving it to the empty tile shows that the tile really was empty.

"Navigator, why is the plotted course not a straight line?"
"There is something creepy about the space straight ahead, sir."
"What do you mean creepy? According to the galaxy map there is nothing there, nor is a place near here mentioned in the 'unexplained space phenomenon index'."
"I known, sir, but just looking at the space ahead closely and you start to feel uncomfortable."
"Let me see for myself.
Okay, finalize the course. I do not see anything wrong with the space ahead, but for the emotional sake of the crew make it so."
The captain takes a deep breath and lowers himself back into the command chair, wiping the cold sweat from the back of his neck.
If you look to deeply into empty space, the empty space will start looking into you.
